This song is clearly about OCD. And maybe a love affair... "I want to wipe out all the sad ideas that come to me when I am holding you" It's about how you can't stop worrying about stuff. That's why you start making rituals, routines, believing stupid stuff (as if you pick the "right" box of crackers in the shop, it'll be good luck and you will be safe and sound.) "All you ever think about are sick ideas involving me, involving you" That also happens to people suffering from OCD. You can't stop thinking about icky things happening. These thoughts might feel very embarassing and inappropriate. They are make you feel horrifying, like, what happens if someone could hear them or what if it would really happen? The second verse is about the compulsions, you know, like everything turns into a big symbol and you have to be able to choose "right", or there'll be something terrible happening. Like, you could rule your whole life by these small things. The pressure gets huge and the situation might get so overwhelming that you get too scared to do anything for a while. ("Pressure overwhelming Next minute I am turning out of the door, facing one week without food A day, a day when things are pretty bad Dont let it make you feel sad, the crackers were probably bad luck anyway") It's, like, we've all got are obsessions.. Sometimes, they just might get a bit bad.. I'm sometimes lost with mine, and I like to listen to this song.. It makes me feel better, like I wouldn't be the only crazy person in here.. |

| I wanted to ask this for a long time and please don't get offended, but did hope sandoval used to have an eating disorder? Just something in her looks and poses in pictures.. Sometimes she looks so painfully skinny and childlike.. Just curious.. | |

I think it is about a guy who loves a girl, but can't tell her.. "everyday you can see changes in her hair and smile".. He is watching her everyday.. If you've ever had a major crush, you'll know the feeling.. People look a little different from day to day. He watches so closely that he sees it all,("I can watch forever while her smile goes away") also the cuts on her wrists("the slices in her hands").. Maybe it is also about loosing a fairytale.. The perfect girl is living in a nightmare also..("the secrets in her lipstick mouth"), creepy things that you don't want to hear a perfect girl to say. But it doesn't matter, because they will never really meet. They will never really know each other and he can go on dreaming and watching her, imagening a fairytale that doesn't exist. One thing though, I don't get the ending: "funny how things change".. What changes? |

I think there is actually three persons in this song. There is the narrative, some ex-boyfriend or something similiar and the current boyfriend. The first verse makes me think about a party with loud music and dancing, and, especially if you're a little drunk, you can find yourself too close with a boy, who's touching you a little bit too much.. The insy winsy spider sounds like those creepy hands. And the boy is a rich spoiled brat, but she still finds herself attracted to him. And she maybe does something stupid, and let the guy have her way. Afterwards she feels angry and embarassed for letting that happen. "could never tell you what happened the day i turned seventeen, the rise of a king and the fall of a queen" Is for the current boyfriend.. She can never tell what happened, maybe it was embarassing and stupid or traumatic. |

| I think that great thing about this song is how she uses little details to demonstrate about the relationship. It makes it feel so real... (maybe it was real, how do I know?) | |

| I can't helpo thinking that she is pregnant.. And it is very early and she is guessing from the featus "who are you?" But I don't know, I'm not sure if it fits perfectly, but I think it could be kind a cute.. My heart just breaks when I think about the tine alien baby.... :DD | |

I always thought that this song is about some boy, but I guess the grandpa thing makes more sense. I thought that this is about a hard relationship, when you love somebody, but it just doesn't work out and finally you just decide to give up and let go... |

wow, I've heard so many interesting theories what this song is about.. for me, I think this song is about dying and I could very well think that it could be about an eating disorder too. at the begining where she starts with: "Still falling, breathless and on again.." in my opinion it sounds like she would have just awoken again from a dream, just to find out that she is still alive and still here, but still getting weaker and worse from day to day. I'm not sure, who is that another person she is refering to, maybe a friend or a lover or just another part of herself. It sounds little bit like she would hope the other person to save her "I can feel myself under your fate", but not quite believing that it could happen. And like she wouldn't anymore know the other person or anyone else. She sounds more like that "this is the end. I'm dying, I'm turning to dust, I went too far this time and there is no way back from here." And just waiting the end to come, like she would find herself dead already. At the end I get the feeling that the end is really coming that time there was someone once important to come her ("it was you, breathless and tall") to see her for the last time. heh, a bit dramatical, don't you think? |
