I can totally relate to this song. Its about feeling like your a failure in life and that you are capable of so much more than what your doing. In a sense you have to "prove yourself" that you are worth much more than the life your living. Its either you shape up, prove yourself and "grow" because if you don't you might as well be dead. He wants to change and live up to the potential he has, but doesn't know how. Its hard to get a start in life. You don't know the best road to take. |

Totally agree with you. I also went through a break up around the time I was listening to this song and I completely related with it. I got into a relationship that was never going to make it. Retrospectively he is looking at other couples cynically (as suggested in the first line) and in heinsight can see it was doomed. I also think "corny line" refers to using them as well as hearing. "In the bar getting drunk" is obviously about feeling sorry for yourself. The line "take the shine of your shoes" took me a while to interpret, but what it is to me is that at the start it was all fresh and "shiny" but after living and walking through life the shine went off and it wasn't good any more. "Let it loose" can also I think mean go wild on the rebound. |
