I'm gonna start off saying this song has one of the best guitar solos I've ever heard. On another note, I feel that this song is simple in the fact that he is speaking, of course, of being torn (go figure). But, the mystery is what he is being torn between. I feel that this meaning of the song can go for any conflicting situation where the outlying consequences weigh the same, but their polarities are unknown. A real general interpretation, but... Really, awesome guitar solo. |

I can generally relate this song to the overall depression and hopelessness achieved in any perilous situation where a mass of human lives are at stake, whether it be the Holocaust, War, etc. This song holds the power in the perspective of those that are themselves suffering, and their depression is portrayed in the chorus. However there is a parallel perspective in those that are fucking over the "chorus", if you will. The verses show the untouched, abuse-causing perspective which is then immediately contrasted by the devastated "abuse-ees". This can be identified by Draiman's powerful, commanding runs in the verses, then merciful, remorseful runs in the chorus. A very powerful, touching song. Love the double pedal too. |

| I related this song to an event that went on in my life that involved an ending relationship with a lover. I felt as though we had been together for such a long time that our love was true, but once it reached that climax and we thought we were going to continue with it, it submitted instead, and eventually our relationship died. I see this song as an equivalent occurrence: Our love was growing in its sheltered case of affection, but when it came to the point that it was supposed to be birthed into its full potential, it died instead of continuing its growth into a mature, stable relationship. | |
