Staind – Reply Lyrics 15 years ago
We all should know what this song is about, but I just have to comment on my favorite part... the second verse:

"Your words
Your words help me to see
A little honesty
In a world that doesn't share
And your eyes
Tell the story of your pain
Severity of your disdain
In a world that doesn't care"

He says, "your words help me to see"... and, "your eyes tell a story..."
Technically, eyes help you see, and words tell a story. I've just always loved how he put that together.
Aaron Lewis is the shit!!!!!!!!!!!!

Staind – Schizophrenic Conversations Lyrics 15 years ago
This song reminds me of my brother who was schizophrenic. He passed away a couple of years ago, but I watched him suffer with this illness for 5 years and it tore me apart. This song came out before he died, so I let him listen to it one day and tried to explain it to him (the way I understand it) because to me, this song gives hope for people with schizophrenia.

The first verse, in my opinion, is most of the battle:

"Are you afraid...
afraid of the truth
in the mirror staring back at you?"
**What I hear him talking about is the fear of facing the truth about being schizophrenic. Nobody wants to admit to having a mental illness or being out of control.**

"The image is cracked
but so is the view here"
**... this is another way of describing how your perception is distorted. You're looking at yourself with this illness seeing something or someone you don't recognize, but at the same time, seeing yourself from eyes that don't see things clearly.**

"And the strength of a tree
begins in the roots
that I tend to bury into you.
Atleast now the storm can't blow me away"
**This line is so powerful to me. It's as if he's surrendering to the disease & giving these voices control, letting them make his decisions, instead of fighting it... It can't get much worse than that; nothing can shake up his world any more than it already is.**

The chorus makes me think of the loneliness. I know my brother felt like nobody believed him or understood him most of the time. If only he could show somebody what went on in his head, he wouldn't be so alone. ... and the feeling of blame for his own mind making his life a living hell.

The second verse sounds like he's decided to fight back with the voices in his head... pretty self-explanatory...as is the rest of the song.

It breaks my heart to know that I never was able to help my brother, but I just hold to my belief that he is at peace now.

By the way, Aaron Lewis is AMAZING!! My favorite artist by far...and a really cool person from what I have seen at his concerts.

Eminem – Not Afraid Lyrics 15 years ago
I'm wondering if anybody really knows what this song is about. Some of it is just small talk but the overall message is about recovery from addiction. In a 12 step program, our main goal is to recover & help others recover from addiction. That's why he says "Everybody come take my hand, we'll walk this road together." The whole "not afraid to take a stand"... in my opinion has to do with an addict's ego because when we let go of the drugs, one of the first things we have to deal with is our ego because we're always worried about what other people will think about us quitting drugs or what others will think about the fact that we even did drugs. When he says, "thought I had it mapped out but I guess I didn't, this f-ing black cloud still follows me around but it's time to exercise these demons, these motherf-ers are doin' jumpin' jacks now!" A lot of times, in recovery we try to do things our own way & we think we can.. and most of us never really understand why we are so addicted, or why even when we have stopped doing drugs or alcohol for a long period of time, we are still an addict and/or alcoholic (this f-ing black cloud still follows me around)... so we have to always work against the disease to keep it at bay (but it's time to exercise these demons). The line, "These motherf-ers are doin' jumpin' jacks now!".. if you haven't been in recovery, you would never know what he's talking about. Addiction/alcoholism is a progressive disease whether you're using or not and they say the whole time you're clean, your addiction is still getting stronger, doing jumping jacks in the back of your mind.
My favorite verse of the whole song is the last one, where he says, "Cause the way I feel, I'm strong enough to go to the club or the corner pub & lift the whole liquir counter up cause I'm raising the bar, I shoot for the moon but I'm too busy gazing at stars, I feel amazing & I'm not afraid..." He is saying that he is strong enough in his recovery to put himself in a tempting situation without giving in. LOVE THIS SONG!!!!

Shinedown – The Crow And The Butterfly Lyrics 15 years ago
I think this song was written in a way that a lot of people can relate to it and interpret it in their own way. To me, this song represents how I feel about my fiance of 8 years who passed away 7 & 1/2 months ago. The only thing is that I haven't put away his books (even the one with the 4leaf clover) or his pictures. However, there are many nights I can't sleep because I can almost still hear his voice when I think of memories & it is a very "haunting melody". Most nights, I wake up atleast 4 or 5 times from dreams I have of him. I have also had many encounters with butterflies since his passing so I automatically refer to him as a butterfly (which to me, represents rebirth) & I am the crow (I feel like death since he's been gone).. still chasing something free & transformed.. something I can't have. The part about "getting high as outer space, I never thought you'd slip away.. I guess I was just a little too late"... is very significant to me, because we both had a drug addiction.. we stayed high all the time, thinking we had all the time in the world. We only just got sober together a few months before he passed away.. & I remember thinking when we got sober how much time we had wasted getting high all those years. That, in itself is a "haunting melody" to me.
