Joy Division – Shadowplay Lyrics 13 years ago
Quite. It a a classic picture of the tortured artist. The artist who lets himself become vulnerable and naked for the sake of art. That is why I admire people like Ian Curtis, Nick Drake, Leonard Cohen, etc. Because they completely exposed themselves and thus were able to create some of the most beautiful, sad, melancholic, and powerful (and revealing) music of all time (something that I would never have the courage to do).

Yes, it's about suicide. More accurately, it's about the contemplation of suicide. (acting out your own death). Just like Leonard Cohen's 'Dress Rehearsal Rag'.

mewithoutYou – The Sun and the Moon Lyrics 13 years ago
I've always been confused about the meaning of this song until a few days ago. My interpretation of this song comes from some recent experiences. Basically, there is so much corruption in this world (even within the community of the church), but recently my eyes have been open to see a perfection in everything: I think G-d uses the sin and corruption of this world for his perfect and completely genius plans. I think that ties into this song. I think that Aaron writes this as a prayer to trust G-d through the seemingly good and bad (the 'Sun' and 'Moon'), 'I want to see both worlds as one'. We can't know what G-d is up to, but he is perfectly worthy of trust and complete devotion. I think that interpretation makes the most sense considering that it ties in with the rest of the album. Shalom.

And I think 'grow of any tree' should be 'grow up any tree'.

I agree with JustPlainNJ about the interpretation of the song. It's seems to be very similar to 'Paper Hanger', in terms of meaning.

Jackson C. Frank – Just Like Anything Lyrics 13 years ago

Jackson said that this song was a nonsense song, meant for 'comic relief' after the extremely melancholy 'My Name is Carnival', and 'I want to be Alone (Dialogue)'. It's ironic though, because this is definitely one of the saddest songs I've ever heard.
