Maybe I'm relating this a bit too much to me and what I'm going through right now, but I think it's about realizing that the relationship he's in is failing. "It's on again, off again, on again" ---The relationship is on and off- they keep breaking up and then getting back together "Watch me fall like Dominoes in pretty patterns" ---He's falling apart at the idea of leaving her "Fingers in the blackbird pie I'm tingling, tingling, tingling" ---'Fingers in the blackbird pie' is supposed to be a sexual metaphor, the 'tingling' shows they have/had chemistry. He's reminiscing. "It's what you feel Not what you ought to, what you ought to" ---She feels guilty that she doesn't love him more, he's saying that you can't help your feelings. "Reasonable and sensible" ---It makes sense to break up, they aren't working anymore as a couple. Yet, somewhere, there is still some regret. "Dead from the neck up I guess I'm stuffed, stuffed, stuffed" ---He feels strangely devoid of emotions- despite knowing he SHOULD feel something at the thought of the relationship finally falling apart. "We thought you had it in you But not, not, not" ---He wishes she could have loved him enough to make the effort to stay together. "For no real reason" ---He feels like at this point there is no reason for them to stay together. They both feel emotionally void. It's more of a habit than anything. Maybe he is also regretting the fact that they got together in the first place. As in, what did I get out of this relationship that makes the pain of separating worth it? "Squeeze the tubes and empty bottles" ---There's nothing substantial keeping them together, but they are trying to squeeze the last bit of life out of it "I take a bow, take a bow, take a bow" ---No clue. Maybe he's ironically proud of keeping it alive for so long when obviously it was the wrong thing to do. "It's what you feel Not what you ought to, what you ought to The elephant that's in the room is Tumbling, tumbling, tumbling In duplicate and triplicate and Plastic bags in duplicate and triplicate" ---The elephant in the room is the unspoken agreement that they have nothing to say to each other anymore. No one wants to admit it, but it's still there. They keep ignoring it and it just keeps getting bigger. "Exactly where do you get off?" ---He sounds a little pissed off here about something he doesn't really refer to. "Is enough, is enough I love you but enough is enough Enough of that stuff" ---He can't keep this pretense of a relationship up anymore. "You've got a head full of feathers You got melted to butter" ---Now she's gone |
