| Beirut – Mimizan Lyrics

On my first visit to Toronto, my friend and his friends brought me to the beaches area where I got to sit beside Lake Ontario. We went to the beach and sat on some rocks and when everyone stopped talking, I played this song. It was really lucky choice because my phone only had this song from Beirut, since I only had the 'Dark was the Night' compilation.
My friend (who moved to Toronto 6 years ago) and his friends all smiled and agreed at the choice of the song. It was a nice feeling I chose the 'right song' for the occasion. There is also a side story about me thinking of moving to Toronto as well. |

This song hit me like a brick. The piano, drums, violins and horns...
And of course the strongest part, Zach's voice.

| Arcade Fire – Suburban War Lyrics

This song becomes more powerful and poignant to me after every listen of the album. I had the leaked copy where this was track #9, whereas the vinyl has it as the second last track and it makes so much difference in placement.
For me, the first part of the song is unbelievable. The chords, the ukulele and the slide guitar are so perfect. It also reminds me of a Fleetwood Mac song or songs way before.
What makes it such a brilliant song is the 2nd part, which is almost a signature of Arcade Fire. The build up and incredible lyrics gives me chills. If I can see them live, this might be one of the most powerful moments ever in my live music experience. |

| Arcade Fire – Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains) Lyrics

Obviously both Sprawl songs are related. I believe Sprawl 1 is of the man's point of view where he's remembering the place he once lived. Sprawl 2 sees the female in the passenger seat who is still living in their suburb. It seems like she's not content and feels like she can't leave home.
They seemed to have rekindled the flame from an old romance. Bringing the man on bikes to revisit some old memorable places. The man realizing although he moved away, he's still unsure where he's supposed to be or where his true love is. |

Every time I listen to the album, another song catches my ear. This time, 'Empty Room' caught me by surprise. The sounds of the instruments and voices are very eerie. It's like when you have so many thoughts running through your mind and it puts you in a haze.
What is the correct translation of the French sung at the end of the song? |

The end lyrics and large pounding drums is so powerful. "All my old friends they don't know me now. All my old friends are staring through me now." Amazing.

| Arcade Fire – The Suburbs Lyrics

To me, it sounds like the person is leaving the suburbs to urban life. The character is looking back on their life in the suburbs, thinking if they loved or hated where they grew up. |

| Arcade Fire – Wasted Hours Lyrics

This song got me the first listen through of the album. I had to rewind it multiple times to really listen to what was actually said, but also listen to such a great song.
I believe it's a man thinking about the life he had up to now, right before or after his divorce is finalized. He's thinking about the wasted hours he spent on her, but she will move on to another man quick.
I guess that's how I interpret the song. Everything is perfect in this song, especially the strings and organ. |

This song means an awaken to me. Not from a dream, but from a long depression. Your mind slowly starts to recover and you find life meaningful again.
