SinginSilence nailed it I think. The line in verse 2 is definitely a play off of the Hymn "Come Thou Fount" Original lyrics: O to grace how great a debtor daily I'm constrained to be! Let thy goodness, like a fetter, bind my wandering heart to thee. Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it, prone to leave the God I love; here's my heart, O take and seal it, seal it for thy courts above. Even the melody and the 3/4 time signature seems to be a play on this old song. You also see the lines "God (lord) I feel it" and then when Andy sings "Im gonna leave you" it is hinting towards "Prone to wander" I love this song! Such honesty coming from Andy, he knows all the Christian beliefs, but he knows how he has turned his back on God and you see it all throughout his lyrics. The lyric on verse 2 is definitely "Constrained to to be" |

Necronic They aren't Christians, they aren't trying to reel you in. Andy was raised as a Christian, So he writes about his upbringing and things he has gone through in his life. Calm down homie, he aint trying to reel you in to anything. I think the line "I felt the Lord begin, to peel off all my skin" might be kind of a reference to a segment in the CS Lewis book The Voyage of the Dawn treader... one of the characters is turned into a dragon and Aslan (God/the lord) comes and begins top peel off layers of his scales until he is a boy again... I just always thought the lyrics might be inspired by that... |
