I think you are right about there being a religious message, but wrong about most of the rest. Don't you all see this is a song sung by a man about another man? And being "clean" in front of God (the king) means not being homosexual. So a homosexual man is in love with a man who is with a woman, but probably flirted or led the gay man on. I love this song, but am amused when people don't see it's about homosexual love.

I think this song is about a homosexual man who is in love with a straight or bisexual man who enjoyed getting the attention from the homosexual man but ultimately chose to be with a woman instead. I do think kneeling before the king has to do with religion. Because some people (not me) see homosexuality as a sin and as making a person "unclean". So the man chose a women instead of the singer in order to not sin. Just my thoughts.
