Anyone who's ever lived on Desolation Row knows what this song is about. Any others can speculate as scholars but then you are looking to deeply into it. It's funny how this song is simple for some, the simplest of it's kind.. yet men try to make so complicated. It's just about desolation row and the different lives of people inhabiting it. |

Doesn't he says, "And all the lunatics sold tears to the moon" and I don't think it's Came to conquer my left and my right one, too. Because if you listening closely he says "Conquer-ING" there's an ING. I personally can't make out what he's saying in the second line, but just my lyrical analysis. Regardless, fantastic song(: |

Pretty similar to my interpretation. I would assume that it's about being on tour away from someone he loved. It is pretty self-explanatory, but the "We'll be home soon so dry your eyes" is kind of a give away. From a musician's perspective, this makes a lot of sense. |

I always thought it song was about being on tour. About a girlfriend or someone he has back home that misses him. He says: "We'll be home soon, so dry your eyes You'll be okay, " and "You just have to believe in me" In other words, she has to trust him. And he talks about the tides getting higher, It could be a reference to how hard life on tour is, that things are just getting more and more intense. but he still has hope and says they can still do it. and at the end, I think they just eventually drifted away, without really ending things but rather growing apart, from the distance, and he's says "You never said goodbye (Goodbye) And now your on your own " and at the end he says goodbye. So this song is kind of his fare well to her. but that's just some food for thought, or atleast my analysis as a musician, Life on tour can be hard, especially being away from someone you love. |
