| Fuel – Innocent Lyrics | 12 years ago |
It is hard to argue that this song is not spiritual in nature with the numerous references to satan, angels, prayer and sin. A lot of people have commented about the loss of innocence and that is what sin is. The bible talks at great length about being "enslaved to sin." Or if you like to think of it this way, "bought and sold" by your sinful desires and actions (Romans 7:14). The song touches on the raw frustration that anyone who has ever battled with any kind of sin understands, "Forfeit all my lives, to get just one right." And while confessions not yet stated, our next sin is contemplated" this is exactly what it is like. We are literally enslaved by sin. We get to a point where we are held back by the chains we allowed to be put on us through our actions. But the truth is that while we are enticed, we have all consented to our mistakes. Our innocence was not stolen, we handed it over for "pleasures overrated." There is only one who can count us as innocent. |

| Lifehouse – Only One Lyrics | 15 years ago |
It is important to know that although Lifehouse is not technically under the genre of a Christian band, they have come out and expressed the importance of their personal faith and how it impacts their music. Wade himself is the son of two missionaries, so we need to understand the context of the artists who make these songs. In the same respect, Wade has also made it a point not to explain the meanings behind the bands songs. He does this for the same reason the band is not under the "Christian" label. Wade does not want titles or his own personal meanings for his songs to scare anyone away from finding their OWN meanings for their songs. |

| Lifehouse – Near Life Experience Lyrics | 15 years ago |
It sounds to me like Wade is describing that point in life where you realize that living your life for yourself is empty and never leads to fulfillment. He recounts all the feelings of desperation and unhappiness. Wade has a very spiritual background and in my opinion he is describing the point where he first surrenders his life to God. "You said I look like a ghost, man I almost was You said need to let go, quit chasing that bus", this is an example of what the life he was living was doing to him. One of the first lines of the song describes the idea of developing faith, "You might not understand, but I bet you'll believe", as faith is something that can't be observed studied in a physical way, it can only be "understood" as something we "believe". The chorus sums it all up, "Well maybe I'm blind, just throwing darts in the dark I didn't get what I want, I got what I need (He didn't get the quick moments of self gratification but instead he had an experience that was necessary to help him see the truth about the meaning of his life) Man it hurts like hell, down here on my knees (surrendering our lives is always a painful experience as we have to give up the things we once traded everything for) Is this where I end, or is this where we begin?" (After this experience he has a choice, he can either go back to the life that doesn't lead to anything better, or he can choose a new beginning in a life of awareness and truth) |

| Kanye West – Power Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Kanye is talented sure but his mental health is definitely in question. This whole song he talks about "no one man should have all that power." Kanye is notoriously known for his mentions to his faith. After his mother died his religiously charged songs switched from reverence to anger. So which "one" man is he saying should not be allowed to have all that power? Kanye believes in the second coming of Christ and is stating that Jesus doesn't deserve to come back and take the world. The world is in chaos and Kanye believes hes coming back soon to take what Kanye believes should be his. Kanye believes that when Christ comes back, kanye will be punished for his actions, "Now this ll be a beautiful death Jumpin out the window Lettin everything go." Break down the chorus... No one man should have all that power (Jesus doesn't deserve to be God) The clock s tickin, I just count the hours (Till Jesus comes back) Stop trippin, I'm trippin off the power (Right now Kanye has power and influence through the masses singing his songs and subconsciously preaching his message.) Til then, fuck that, the world's ours. (Till he comes back Kanye runs this world) |
