smaksim7: that's what I thought too. Only hard in the morning? Yeah, that's what it seems like they mean. Of course, they could be saying it's only hard to leave a girl in the morning, after the things they have done and the mystery of the night has worn off. I see this song as a guy in any club or bar, who chats up a woman because he's missing the girl he does love. He uses a cheesy line, saying that his friend fancies her, and pretty soon the atmosphere has changed into one of lust between them. They leave the club before the lights come on and it closes down, as to keep the connection alive. I think the part of the song that mentions the girl thinking the guy looks different is one of the reasons the man wants to leave before the lights come on and she wakes up. He's afraid that she won't see him as attractive or lust after him anymore once the lights are on and she can see him in plain daylight for how he really is. He wants to leave the situation on his own terms without hte girl interfering with his view on how the night went. It's pretty depressing, if you think about it. It's always easier to fake love in the night. |

I have a theory about the pirate-related names of the bars... Pirates search for treasure and take things that aren't theirs to take. Isn't that what a man does when he has sex with a whore? He searches for an imitation of love and takes something from a woman that isn't his to take. So, if he is going to these three pirate-related bars, he's looking for whores who resemble the girl he lost. In rocketry, a battleship is a non-functional rocket or rocket stage which is used to test configuration and integration of a launch vehicle. In the first bar, the Battleship, he could be testing trying love again with a whore. He still is non-functional, however, because he misses his original girl too much and is searching for the wrong thing. He really wants love. Also, for the last bar, the Cornerstone... I did a simple define search on Google and found this: Cornerstone is a relational database for DOS by Infocom in 1985. It was widely hailed upon its release for its ease of use, but is generally considered one of the leading factors that led to the demise of the company. It's a stretch, but what if the two first met at a bar called the Cornerstone, and they both regarded it as a place that helped them meet easily? However, in the end, once he loses the girl, the bar could be considered a bad memory and be a destructive thing. Another theory regarding the Cornerstone bar: a cornerstone in architecture is a block of stone on the corner of a building that states the name of the building, the name of the architect who designed it, and the date it was built. What if he considered the girl his cornerstone, who defined who he was? The girl was his life and once he lost her, he had nothing to define himself anymore, and went searching for the next best thing: her sister. |
