| As Tall as Lions – A Break, A Pause Lyrics

This is my favorite from the s/t, I really like how it feels like this song is so low and compressed, then it seems to open up in the chorus. It made me very sad to learn today that ATAL is going to play a few more shows and then hang it up. I found out about this wonderfully talented band too late to get the opportunity to see them play live (too bad I don't live in LA or something...) At least I'll be able to put this album on anytime and be transported to a different place entirely, their music is beautiful. |

| Mad Season – Long Gone Day Lyrics

What surprises me most about Long Gone Day the more I listen is how much unexpected instrumentation is found. No other grunge group I've heard records with marimbas and saxophone at the forefront. It's a perfect juxtaposition of laid back music and very dark and personal lyrics. This is why I love Mad Season. |

| John Vanderslice – When It Hits My Blood Lyrics

There are too many similarities drawn between John's lyrics here and the events of Selby's Requiem For A Dream for it to be a coincidence, not that that's a bad thing. In fact, I love to hear songs that draw inspiration from other works that I know and enjoy, especially when they are written so clear as to understand the connection. Cellar Door is the first album by John Vanderslice I heard, and I instantly enjoyed the relaxed singing style he employs; a great example being found on this song. |
