Why? – Berkeley by Hearseback Lyrics 14 years ago
An idea that has no one has suggested yet. I think this song is Yoni imagining he is already dead. I mean just the title "Berkely by Hearseback" suggests his funeral.

"Will this new year's see my rotting hair's release?" refers to his decaying body.

"I am survived" obviously referencing his own obituary

The whitepages line is repeated twice to suggest two meanings. He is comparing himself to:
-Someone who remains listed in a phonebook after their death. "Someone's fathers father"
-Now long dead biblical patriarchs. "Someone's father's father" here refering to the lineages listed in the bible. All those characters are now dead.

Why? – This Blackest Purse Lyrics 14 years ago
I think this song is a reaction to the previous songs of the album. The whole album dealing with death. The song previous to this is "Berkley by Hearseback" where Yoni pictures himself already dead being "Hearseback". This song is a step away from the story to ponder, what it means to write song about being dead. "Our heroes hands holding this blackest purse" aka Yoni being dead. It also a lot about how the songs he sings makes him perceived to be in contrast with who he actually to who he is hence the lines about "the poser" and "the small fry". Basically this song is a critique of his own music in contrast to himself. His character in his songs vs the actual author.

Bright Eyes – Poison Oak Lyrics 15 years ago
I basically interrupted the song as this. Conor's brother, a transexual/gay leaves for mexico. The reason I think he leaves has to do with the line "I was young enough, I still believed in war" I think Conor's brother left to avoid a draft.

This song basically is him hearing from his brother since. The yellow bird is a reference to a canary. They used to send canary's into coal mines to make sure that the air was breathable. Conor's brother is the yellow bird hes been waiting for, he never knew that life like that could be possible.

How I interpret it anyways
