Eric Church – Homeboy Lyrics 14 years ago
I love the sound of this song, especially the chorus. But the lyrics themselves really bother me. It's a very rare "homeboy" who chooses the life they have over some farm and family dream, most are born and raised into it. They don't run the streets to rebel against their parents or family, they do it to respect them, or provide for them. It's a different world, with different morals and values. This song combines the two in a strange way, and it comes off wrong to me.

Breaking Benjamin – I Will Not Bow Lyrics 14 years ago
Probably not the original intent of the writers, but as soon as I heard this song I thought of the same thing! If you know the stories of some of the "villians" in any tv show or movie, it really fits with a lot of them!

Alan Jackson – Where I Come From Lyrics 15 years ago
About the universal joint/finger, I think what he meant was his thumb, meaning he had to hitch-hike. But I'm not positive. Maybe that was why the 'tall lady' saw him and stopped? And I agree with the opinion that the lady is either a man or a tranny.

I like Alan Jackson, but this type of song bothers me, generalizing about an area like that. Especially since, aside from the first verse, he keeps offering the info to these people in the other verses who didn't ask. Maybe they share some of his love for cornbread, but he writes them off as different from him because of where they're from.
