Mumford & Sons – Below My Feet Lyrics 13 years ago
Awesome interpretation, this is pretty much what I thought when I listened to it several times. I also think that "Keep the earth below my feet" could very well be saying that he wants to focus his mind on heavenly things and to keep the earth below his feet instead of at the forefront of his actions. The whole idea of putting aside earthly things is a central Christian moral and might be referenced here. However, I think that line is supposed to have different interpretations for different people, it's a beautiful song.

Mumford & Sons – Dust Bowl Dance Lyrics 15 years ago
Well, I recently read Grapes of Wrath, and it is a very basic interpretation of the book, that is an ordinary farm family left homeless by the Dust Bowl. One man stays though, because his heart remains with the land, and he can go nowhere else (there was a man like this in the Grapes of Wrath, but I do not remember his name.) Anyway, it just describes the desperation felt by the families at this time.

Mumford & Sons – Timshel Lyrics 15 years ago
Okay, so I am currently reading east of eden, and I just reached the part about the word timshel. I believe that the substance part is man's soul, which Lee was discussing, where he said how beautiful the human soul is, it will never die. The part about the mother is referring to Cathy or Kate. It is saying it was her choice to be there for her children or not, and she chose not to. This forced her sons to become men early, becuase there is no need for them to be babies with only their father around (I believe Sam Hamilton discussed this.) That is what he believed made men great, when they became men. The ladder to the stars is the choice that they have, or Timshel (thou mayest). The last part about the brothers still confuses me, as I have not finished the book, but part of me thinks it has something to do with Cal and Aron, and their relation to Cain and Abel. So anyway, my thoughts may seem a bit confused, but I'm not really using the book, just memory. Replies are appreciated

Mae – Just Let Go Lyrics 15 years ago
Okay, this is what my take on the song is. It seems to me to be about two people in love obviously, and I think the "old" oak tree represents there eternal love for each other. And when it says we can swing and sway, its like the saying "bending but not breaking", in that there love cannot be taken away. But, it seems that something is keeping them apart from each other, hence "when I look at you, your so far away." Something in their lives is keeping them apart, and the title Just Let Go, is saying he wants to be able to let go of whatever it is that is holding them back. Maybe, as stated by other people, the girl was abused, and he is saying that "if only you could just let go" of the past and be with him. Then the line "I know these roots could break the ground" refers to his or her being "rooted" to where they are by there past mistakes (abuse). Also, "in the meantime, or leaves will turn, but rest assured we'll get through anything" is saying that they are moving on to different times and places in their lives, just like the changing seasons. But they will be able to get through it to see each other again. Anyway, that is my extremely long and too far in depth take on this song
