I love this song. I just think it is so deep. I think that (like dannii718) it is about a boy who is in a relationship with a younger girl. He doesn't want to let her pick up his pieces, but he still likes her. He accepts that he is no good for her, and she needs someone who won't lead her down a broken path. This song gets me every time. |

I think that the protagonist is a well brought up boy, with a sturdy background, but he gets a girl or his girlfriend pregnant. He is trying not to sound to depressed about it, but every time he sees her or is in the same room as her, he just can't face what he's done. The girl's father has disowned her for being so irresponsible, and now the protagonist is trying to get over his emotions and support the girl - "Tell me how to stay strong and carry you home, Over corpses of her long-lost fathers and her unborn daughters". I would say that an abortion probably takes place at this point... |

The guy is a charmer. "Asked my girlfriend if she's seen him round before, she mumbled something while we got down on the floor, baby" - she asks her friends, and they tell her he's no good, but she's already in too deep. Before she knows it he's taken over her life. Is it just me that hears Red Bull repeated over and over again when she's saying That Boy over and over before one of the final choruses?! |

Guys, you only have to look at this http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1628355/20091216/lady_gaga.jhtml. GaGa herself revealed the true meaning. It is not, in fact, a girl that has been abused by her significant other, but actually a girl "who likes to have sex with the lights off, because she's embarrassed about her body" to quote the Lady. I really like all the other interpretations though... |
