Florence + the Machine – Heavy in Your Arms Lyrics 15 years ago
I disagree that this is about unrequited love. But it could be about Bella/Jacob or Bella/Edward... or even visa versa. I think it's the later.

Bella saw herself as a burden and laments that they could all be killed because of her. She also felt guilty for hurting Jake and Edward as she tried to hang onto both of them...

The person singing is admitting that they are DIFFICULT to be in love with. For some reason, they think their love is a BURDEN to their beloved. They worry that they are dragging their beloved down. This is such an amazing metaphor.

"My love has concrete feet, my love's an iron ball
Wrapped around your ankles, over the waterfall
I'm so heavy. Heavy. Heavy in your arms"

She is a burden, but she loves him and he loves her as she is still being HELD by him. It's mutual.

And this verse seems to be about a literal danger that her beloved is protecting her from. That would fit in nicely with the story too.

"And is it worth the wait,
All this killing time?
Are you strong enough to stand,
Protecting both your heart and mine?
Who is the betrayer
Who's the killer in the crowd?
The one who creeps in corridors
And doesn't make a sound"

But here she is saying that even though her love for the beloved was perhaps dangerous and a burden, he rose to the occasion and never let her down.

"I was a heavy heart to carry
My beloved was weighed down
My arms around his neck
My fingers laced a crown
I was a heavy heart to carry
But he never let me down
When he held me in his arms
My feet never touched the ground"

I'm not sure what the first verse means "...where he slowly let me drown," except that taken in context with the rest of it, it could mean that she is overwhelmed by his love.

I guess that is why I mostly think of Bella and Edward when I hear this song. It's a difficult, and at times dangerous, relationship. They are completely vulnerable because of the overwhelming love they have for each other and the relationship has meant sacrifice... but in spite of it all they remain steadfast.
