| First, youre incorrect as far as the genre, this is Southern not western music, the beginnng of the song is clearly bluegrass inspired, bringing properly aware minds images of Tennessee mountains, Carolina woods and swamps, etc. Modern country has skewed the idea of traditional southern music away from its roots and blended it with western iconography, cowboy boots and hats have no place east of the Mississippi. Second youre seemingy basing your entire view on the meaning of this song on the single line "Come with me and walk the longest mile." Taking the rest of the lyrics into account you get a totally different picture. TacticalDogma has the right idea, and my original opinion before coming to this site was almost exactly the same. | |

This song is yet another example of how badly Maynard dislikes L Ron Hubbard and Scientology. It even says in the lyrics "...my sweaty L Ron Hubbard upper lip...". Hubbard came up with Dianetics, which was basically a 'selfhelp' program, and it eventually evolved into the religion known as scientology. L ROn Hubbard believed that he was the one who had been selected to tell humanity the 'truth' about our origins and our ultimate ending, and the basis of the beliefs of scientology are that humans are, in a nutshell, the reincarnated souls of aliens that were killed millions of years ago. WHere this fits in with the song is, first off, the UFO references, the 'stealth bananna', area 51, etc. The person in the song was visited by an 'x-files being' and revealed to that he is the chosen one to deliver the message to humanity (as l ron hubbard believed he was chosen) and all the references to being high are maynards way of saying that there's NO way hubbard came up with all of this and seriously believes it, unless of course, he was high. THe intro, blame hoffman, can be a reference that the guy who came up with LSD is to blame for all this scientology BS because his chemical enabled hubbard to mislead so many people. ANd i know this is a horribly sloppy comment, but i was ina hurry xp |
