I believe this song is about the world dying due to people ignoring their responsibilities to protect it. The population drops throughout the song, from 6 billion down to 1. This is implies that people are dying because the world is changing - possibly due to climate change. The "Back against the wall" lyric implies that the people are cornered, and that they can no longer run, they have to face the changes that are upon them. "If we don't do this, somebody else will" lyric changes to "If we don't do this, nobody else will". This shows that in the beginning the human race were happy to leave it to other people, future people, to resolve the problems...however the lyric then changes to reflect a moment of realisation. |
