I always took 'The Sound' to be like...the music in your head, that you play or something. So even when things suck a lot, it keeps him up. So when he's forgotten the sound, his guitar is messed up. Also, when he's 'flirting with it', it's like he's on the verge of making a great song. |

I thought this might be just about them getting high? The song is just kind of about being lazy, and the line "walked around in a daze looking for food" would go with that. Also, he just released an album called Reefer. Maybe? |
