Although many may disagree with my interpretation of these lyrics..I will share my understanding anyways. I can easily see a biblical coarolation about Jesus Christ here. Everything from He's walking like a small child to now He's standing on His last step. I can see Jesus walking like a small child and the blackholes in his golden stare.. the depth and sincerity of His love..But watch his eyes burn you away..can be the reason so many don't come unto the Lord because of the obvious light that exposes the darkness radiating from his eyes..as mentioned in the gospel of St.John.God knows he wants to go home ..makes it clear he is not of this world..and reminds me when Jesus prays in the garden to his Father before his crucifixion .to take this cup from him..and sweated drops of blood. Ofcourse Jesus was obedient and said,not my will but thy will be done. Now he's walking like a dead man ..dead to his flesh and all its desires which opposes the spirit .if he (Jesus ) had lived. (Didn't go to the cross for the sins of the world,for our salvation St.John 3:16) He (God the Father) would have crucified us all.assuming crucifixion is the just punishment for our sin which separates from God. It has been said that Jesus took our place on the cross.Now he's standing on his last step..to me speaks about our Lord's resurrection..(now he, Jesus is at the right hand of the Father) He thought oblivion ..(forgiveness in as much as forgetting..) well it beckons us all..God's invitation..behold I stand at the door and knock ..the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus..the rest of the lyrics go into a description on how Jesus overcame hell..watch him (Jesus) die according to plan .(which scriptures mention..that Jesus came as a savior and redeemer) He's dust on the ground what did we learn? Like many including doubting Thomas figured Jesus was dead and was dust on the ground..what did we learn? We prayerfully learned that God came to save children of the damned through Jesus his only begotten son,and neither hell or the grave could stop God from raising Jesus from the dead. Jesus Christ is the Alpha and Omega..the resurrection and the life.
Note: not everyone agrees that Jesus actually suffered the flames of hell..as mentioned in the lyrics
That being said children of the damned are according to the bible without Jesus as their Lord and savior will burn again tonight. |

This is by far one of the best song ever recorded by The Babys. I was a teenager when I first heard this song and to this very day I can still relate to the lyrical content. John Waite certainly hits home with some of the best lyrics ever written. |

I have to admit that most of Rod Stewart's lyrics whether he personally wrote them or not most of the time make perfectly good sense or at least easily understood for the most part. I truly like this song I remember seeing Rod on the Midnight Special back in the day and I noticed one of the few times I ever saw him playing guitar.With that being said does anybody know what was meant by: Verse seven is never clear?
