I know that all songs are open to interpretation, particularly ones penned by masterful lyricist Isaac Brock, but I'm pretty sure this song is about University Of Ohio alumni and current NFL tight end Dallas Clark of the Indianapolis Colts. I'm telling you; try as I might, I cannot find any proof that his parents had ever been to Dallas, TX before naming him. |

A lot of people keep mentioning that Maynard is against religion, but he has never stated that he was. His problems are regarding the "agents" of religion; the corrupt clergy, the back room politics, the hypocrisy, etc. Because Maynard has always been so clear about his spirituality over the years, it's confusing to read his fans claim that he is an atheist. It's not even a matter of interpretation; it's as clear as day that he believes in his own, personal higher power. His outlook seems to be very similar to the late Bill Hicks, another believer of God who maintained his cynicism towards the agents of organized religion. |

I'm confused about why further interpretations are being offered if the meaning of the song has already been established by the band? It has already been mentioned several times above; Mike Patton was partaking in a sleep deprivation experiment and wrote this song, along with Land Of Sunshine. There is no deep meaning regarding masturbation, being gay, etc. It's a stream-of-consciousness song written while delirious from lack of sleep while being over-caffeinated. I'm all about people interpreting songs for themselves, but when the band tells you what it's about, it's time to defer to them. |
