| I think it might be about an ex girlfriend too. Sean wakes up and this girls gone so he leaves his house to look for her (he refers to his house as a tent in the song). finds her footprints and follows the path "each step was deliberately placed, it looks like you know where it leads," which means she knows where she's going, she has a destination in mind. then he sees wolf prints following and stalking her ( i'm pretty sure the wolf is a metaphor for a drugy or something in that ball park). then another set of wolf prints appear and the wolf tracks and the girls footprints go off the path. then her tracks disappear and become wolf tracks. which i take means this girl and these guys following her use whatever drug and she just becomes a wolf like them. "i can't process, i don't follow, it would be easier to believe you been swallowed." i think that means it would be easier for Sean to believe they killed her then for her to go back and do drugs with these scum bags. "your just another dog with hunger pains" your just another drugy that needs their fix. i feel like the songs about his ex girlfriend that used to do drugs and slug tries to keep her clean . thats why when she's not back in a half hour he gets paranoid because he's scared she went to a crack house to get what she needed. thats just my guess. | |

"see i've been here for thirty some years lookin at myself in the same dirty mirror so it ain't like i don't comprehend" he's been on earth for a good amount of time and he's learned a lot of things. "open that bottle and swallow that friend no crime to take a little too much got time to drink away a few months" thats pretty obvious "swallow that friend" is drinking alcohol. "got a little cocaine habit but he says he only does it if somebody else has it" you can't have a "little" cocaine habit. if you do coke, you do coke. just the irony is humorous in the song. if you only smoke weed when someone else has it, then thats different. usually people don't do that with cocaine, unless they don't have money to buy their own, and maybe thats the case. "go do that shit do that shit lady she went vegetarian for the baby third trimester see the kid kick she showed me outside when she gave me a cigarette" third trimester is the end of the pregnancy. she's talking about how she went vegetarian for her baby but she's smoking cigarettes outside. she'd be better off eating whatever she wants and just stop smoking. "shit there's no way to measure it but not every pony grows up to be a pegasus you gotta let people be hypocrites count your blessings and mind your business" when people see someone smoking while there pregnant, you want to tell the person to quit. but you have to realize that not every person grows up to be a healthy or successful person in life. you gotta let people do there own thing, keep your opinions to yourself and just make sure you do what's right. i had a few ideas about the chorus but i'm not exactly sure what he means. im gonna give my best guess at the end of my comment. "just tryin to keep my mind on work it's like that's the only way to love this life on earth" you gotta keep your mind occupied or your gonna realize how messed up this world is. your born, you go to school, then you work until you die. it's like it's the only way to live on earth. "everyone takes number one in the race 'cause we all keep running in place" no ones doing anything to make the world better. no ones going anywhere, we're all just running in place. if everyones running in place then no one wins, it's a dead tie for everyone. That's why everyone takes number one, but really no ones winning, it's more like everyone loses. "here kitty kitty can't train that fox must be drinkin' that name brand scotch all of us cut from the same damn cloth some of us never cut the price tags off" you can't explain things to some people. people with money ( drinking that name brand scotch) think there better then everyone. one of my favorite lines is, "all of us cut from the same damn cloth some of us never cut the price tags off." all men were created equal, some people want to act like they were made special. just because some one is sitting in a big house sippin name brand scotch doesn't make them any better then someone who is working hard everyday for somewhere to sleep. "she ended up on a pole with her heels pointin' at a jesus she used to know stripped down to her naked body we made her drown in a lake full of patriarchy" a girl that used to be innocent and religious is now a stripper. patriarchy is dominance of men, its when the male is always the leader and has authority over women. if you tell someone that there nothing and not good enough there whole life then thats what there gonna be. men can make women feel useless. A lot of women that are strippers and other jobs such as that were always told they wouldn't amount to anything. some dads inadvertently cripple there daughters when there growing up by teaching them that the male is the leader and that they can't do wrong. "and in between the pride and the misery with an infinite supply of sympathy are these invisible walls that hold me like this goldfish bowl is the whole sea, see?" the goldfish bowl being the whole sea is like saying that my house is the whole world. you only see a little bit of the world and there's so much more out there. he also could be saying there's more out there then earth. like heaven. when you live in a goldfish bowl, your a prisoner. a fish in the sea is free. i feel like thats what slug is trying to say in the chorus too. "stuck with yourself like the rest of us dirt gets done and then we back to dust runnin' in place sun in my face let me fly away heaven won't wait heaven won't wait let me fly away getting no way everyday" your stuck with yourself. your who you are. you can't change your mom or your dad or your dna. your stuck with yourself whether you like it or not. runnin in place (fish doing circles in his bowl). "let me fly away heaven won't wait" im not sure about this line but sometimes i think it means he'd rather die and go to heaven then live on this earth. |
