| Lady GaGa – Speechless Lyrics | 14 years ago |

Everyone's saying how this song is about her father. . . but in fact, I don't think it's about her father at all. Sure she performed it for him when he had surgery, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the lyrics are ABOUT him. This is obviously a love song. To me it's the story of Gaga being in a dysfunctional relationship with a guy who's thinking about breaking up with her. This song is Gaga saying - I love you so much, I'm speechless. I will give everything up for you. "I'll never talk again." (To me, that is one of the most romantic lines ever written), she's saying - I'll never talk again, I'll never write another song, all I need is you. All her hopes and dreams disappeared and she is just head over heels in love with the guy. Obviously she didn't give up her hopes and dreams and talents (thank god) but this song is her emotion of wanting to for her love. That's how I interpret it at least. Not saying I'm correct, that's just what it means to me. Either way this is an outstanding absolutely gorgeous and emotional song. Thank you Gaga for sharing it with us! |

| Florence + the Machine – Howl Lyrics | 15 years ago |

One of the sexiest songs I have ever heard. It has such a cool vibe of urgency and longing, you get the sense that she is completely crazy and animalistic with desire. To me this song is all about physical longing. Such intense longing to the point that you feel like a wild animal and just have to howl. "Screaming in the dark, I howl when we're apart Drag my teeth across your chest to tast your beating heart" ^Wow I absolutely adore that line!!! |

| Emily Haines & the Soft Skeleton – Our Hell Lyrics | 15 years ago |

"Our hell is a good life" Such a beautiful line. I read in an interview Emily did that the song had to do with how our problems aren't really problems. The problems of modern society are such "luxury problems," there are millions of people in this world dealing with a hell of a lot worse. So our trials and tribulations, what we think is "hell," is a very goood life compared to other things. This song really puts things in perspective. Just my opinion, love the other interpretations on here too! |

| Florence + the Machine – Heavy in Your Arms Lyrics | 15 years ago |

Another lyrical masterpiece from Florence. To me, this song is about loving someone too much. Plain and simple, Florence loves this guy much too intensely. And although the love may not necessarily be unrequited, it is definitely unbalanced. Her heart is so full with love, that it is too heavy for her or her lover to carry. She loves with such an intensity that she feels guilty, and is clearly ashamed of the fact that it is un-matched. ("I love you" never felt like any blessing/ Whisper it like it's a secret") Beautiful and dark, a fantastic song! |

| Florence + the Machine – Cosmic Love Lyrics | 15 years ago |

This is an absolutely beautiful song. The lyrics are poetic enough to stand on their own, but when paired with the gorgeous melodies, ear-pleasing instrumentation, and Florence's stunning vocal performance, the song is elevetaed to a whole new level of intensity and beauty. The lyrics are so dramatic and intense and wonderful that they literally leave you stunned. To me, this song is about the all consuming nature of love. The song begins with the most romantic and accurate description of falling in love I have ever heard: "A falling star fell from your heart and landed in my eyes/ I screamed aloud, as it tore through them, and now it's left me blind." Florence is saying that she fell in love unexpectedly, and has literally been torn apart. Her life has been changed dramatically, and now she can only see her love, and is blind to the rest of the world. The opening two lines are followed immediately by the chorus which consists of these jaw-dropping lines: "The stars, the moon, they have all been blown out You left me in the dark No dawn, no day, I'm always in this twilight In the shadow of your heart" The stars, the moon, the biggest grandest things in the world have been rendered insignificant next to the love she feels. There is no night or day, anymore, no variety or change, just the constant state of all consuming love. Nothing else. If that isn't the most romantic thing you've ever heard, consult your doctor about a acquiring a prescription for a soul. This is one of the most dramtic, intense, and romantic love songs I have ever heard. Everything about it from the music to the lyrics is on such a grand scale. This song hits you right in the gut every time. Congratulations Florence on such a beautiful songwriting achievement, and thank you for this gorgeous piece of music. |
