Bob Dylan – All Along the Watchtower Lyrics 10 years ago
I think this song is about hell. Not some metaphysical place for "bad people". I'm talking about the hell that is here on earth when it's time for us to pay for our wrongdoings. It's frightening and we're utterly hopeless. If that's not hell, I don't know what is.

But in reality, it's all a mask. While the suffering is very real, it's these painful lessons we need to make ourselves better.

But I digress. The song to me is all about a doom on the horizon, and those moments we realize our fears being confirmed and amplified.

The Who – Behind Blue Eyes Lyrics 12 years ago
Lots of good interpretation, and I think you all really hit it on the head.

But there's one aspect that's being overlooked, and that's the amount of restraint being shown by the artist (character).

There's a big difference between thinking evil thoughts and doing evil deeds, and the person behind these words perhaps should be commended for not crossing that line. We don't have control of our thoughts, but we always have control over our actions.

The whole last stanza is about stopping bad things as soon as recognize them as starting. . .before it's too late. My respect for anyone who can do that even some of the time.

Phish – Sample In A Jar Lyrics 12 years ago
Thank you JarSample. There's nothing wrong with looking at the positive side OR the negative side. Some make for better songs, and some for a better night's sleep. Neither is more true than the other. In the end, memories exist only in our minds, and do not repeat in reality. I wish you improvement with the panic attacks. God bless you, and thank you again, Tom.

Phish – Sample In A Jar Lyrics 14 years ago
First of all, you all claim to be Phish fans, and yet you don't give Tom Marshall credit for the lyrics.

Secondly, I'll take a stab at the meaning:

It's about a guy who gets hammered and leaves a party angry (perhaps after watching his love interest flirt with other men) ((Dancing with Elihou. . .)). She helps him to the car, and he ends up crashed, trapped ((binding-(seat)belt enclosing me) upside-down ((end-up)), in his car, just thinking about how the night went wrong.

And now he's still with this woman in a serious relationship, and he has to look at her and wonder how, if she loves him, she allowed this to happen to him so long ago.

Think of a frong suspended in formaldahyde, just stuck there without being able to move. . .waiting futilly for help. . .a Sample in a Jar.

God Bless.

Cracker – St. Cajetan Lyrics 15 years ago
I read somewhere that St. Cajetan is the patron saint of labor/work/employment. . .especially in Argentina and South America.

I think the song has to do with asking for a little success. . .in whatever capacity. Maybe love life, or perhaps professional.

"I once knew a well. . .so SWEET
I'd put my lips to the pail and drink,
But I'd give it all up for. . .Some WATER"

Memories are nice, but right now, he just wants a little something more tangible.

Love this band, and long live Skunka'Dunque.

Talking Heads – This Must Be the Place (Naive Melody) Lyrics 15 years ago
There was a time, before we were born.
If someone asks, this is where I'll be.

Almost like when someone says, "I'll be at the office". . .they may be many places, but "the office" is the reason they left the house.

OK fine, he's a genius. LOL

Colin Hay – Overkill Lyrics 15 years ago
It's about a sleepless night, thinking of past relationships.

He goes for a walk outside, and while it's nothing special or new, it's just enough to distract him from over-reacting (overkill) to his situation.

Thank you for this song, Colin!!
