I just can't understand how anyone could actually like this. This is excluding the lyrics, seeing as no one can actually understand what the fuck he's saying, but quite honestly the fact that there are even people out there who take music like this seriously makes me sick. I think you're all being taken for a ride - surely even the band has to understand that what they make is not music? The worst part is, I am a great appreciator of all types of music, but this just defies all logic. Give me Necrophagist, cool, I'll listen to it. Give me Death, Meshuggah or whatever the fuck you want and I'll listen to it and will probably find at least ONE good thing about it. Be it technicality, vocals whatever. But this is just ridiculous. And I know I'm ranting now, but if all this band's point is is to be noisy and "scare" people then I'd rather not classify this as music. That stuff is fine but just don't call it music, for the sake of all humanity |

I think the song is definitely an allusion to the Genesis song of the same name. It's a well-known fact that Akerfeldt is a collector of 60s and 70s prog/psychedelic rock and who better than early Genesis to provide that? Also, the song is of a somewhat similar atmosphere and length |

| I really like Underoath. And Cries of the Past and The Changing of the Times are two of my favourites, but I actually have NO idea whatsoever how the same guy who wrote such shitty lyrics here could write the lyrics for Alone in December. Simply put, Alone In December is my favourite song and lyrics of all time. But these are undoubtedly the worst written lyrics I have ever read in my life. I mean, they're just TERRIBLE! Not dissing the content by the way, I'm neutral on the subject matter at hand so I'm not dissing what the lyrics are actually referring to, just how poorly written they are. "I thought you'd come back at least I prayed The romance has been dead for years But i've been too afraid to dig the grave" This is pretty obvious, he is in a relationship where the love is gone but he's too scared to end it. He probably hopes that they will feel the same as they used to about each other "relief support never came memories carry me through the day of when we were kids and angels came to watch us play" He remembers when they were kids and their relationship used to be so simple and uncomplicated. The last line here, I believe, is talking about how God's angels would watch over them playing together. In this sense he is also saying that God meant for them to be together and I think he always thought he was supposed to marry this girl close my eyes just for tonight the sun still sleeps and when she wakes He just wants to forget about his relationship problems, and just for one night wants to close his eyes amd sleep "a movie that plays in my mind remembering you helps me survive every day a re-run of the next I promised to stay by your side that all would change i can't complain another victim of the game" He remembers the good times they had together and these memories are the only thing carrying him through this break-up. He realizes though, that he is just another victim of the 'game' of love "maybe love will find us again for there is always tomorrow" He hopes that perhaps the love will one day come back to their relationship, because there will always be a new day to start over. "sincerely till the end close my eyes just for tonight the sun still sleeps and when she wakes you'll be a memory" Once again, he decides to just close his eyes and forget about his troubles and when the sun rises the next day he will just be a memory to this girl and he will have closure on the relationship. Even though he is hoping for love to come back to them, he wants all his pain to be over and perhaps realizes that the best way to do that would be to just accept that it is over and to forget about each other. Well, that's my interpretation anyway... these lyrics saved me from a suicide attempt recently so this song is very special to me. Anyway, that's just what the lyrics mean to me |
