As soon as I heard this, I almost started crying. I'm one of the weird kids at my school, the klutz, and even though I have made more friends I can trust this year and a half since I started high school than I have the rest of my entire life, I still feel like an outcast. I think we all do, every person in the world. Some people just let it show more. So this song showed the hope I might have. There are going to be one lucky girl and guy who get to be prom king and queen. There's going to be a valedictorian. There are always going to be those extremely popular people that they all remember. But then, They're going to call your name to come across stage, and the world will feel like your kingdom, and you'll be happy. You and your other outcast friends will all be there, like "the kings and the queens." And even when you do somethign great, there'll be osmeone who think that "this is absurd!" because you weren't the popular kid who SHOULD be getting the attention. MAybe I'm looking too far into it, but this song is one of my favorites, and it gives me hope for the rest of high school. I also love the actual FACT that she wrote this song for us. For the people who've been listening to her and supporting her, and everyone. I'm one of millions, but it still makes me feel special. :D |

I feel just like this. Every day. I have a huge crush on the boy at my bus stop, the freshman in my math class (we're all sophomores). But he doesn't know. And I have a crippling stutter whenever I don't have a script in front of me, especially when I'm talking to a guy. "What's wrong with my tongue These words keep slipping away I stutter I stumble Like I've got nothing to say" That's so very me. This song has made me cry once or twice because when I like someone, when I really like them (and I do not use the word love because I do not believe that we have enough maturity in high school to truly understand the consequences and meaning of love) I can never tell them that I do. My last crush was another one of my best friends and it was the day before the last day of school before I could pluck up the courage to even give him a note. I can only hope that I'll be able to tell him before it's too late, before school ends and we're all gone for the summer, and then in a couple of years, for college, or before he gets a girlfriend. The only thing that I can't really relate with, at least not too well is: "I'm feeling nervous Trying to be so perfect Cause I know you're worth it You're worth it" I don't want someone I need to change for. But I'd be almost willing to change for him. I trust him. |

I love this song. Just getting that out there, but Sk8er Boi was my favorite song when I was younger, with Girlfriend as a close second. I never really got this song until I saw a fan-made video of it (Search Sk8er Boi Sims 2 on youtube) when I was about 10 or 11. I think that what she was trying to say with this was basically "Don't miss out on anything or you'll regret it later." Verse by verse: She likes him, and he likes her, but she's too afraid to lose her status to let him know. She finds somebody else, but as soon as she sees him as a rock star, she wants him again. When she gets to the concert, she finds out that the friends who were so very against her dating him have changed to a point unrecognizable to her, and he's moved on and found somebody else. She's lost everything that she could have had because she was scared. She should have taken the risk. I know how this feels. I had a crush on one of my best guy friends, and I spent the last nine weeks of school freaking out because I wasn't sure what to do, but once I told him, I realized that it was a risk that I had had to take. A message to any girls out there: Take the risk. Jump off that cliff. You like him? Let him know. He just might be worth the risk and if he isn't then he shouldn't matter to you anyway. <3 |

This song and "Sk8er Boi" were two of my first Avril Lavigne songs. I never really payed attention to the lyrics or meaning when I listened to them about. . . I dunno, 6 or 7 years ago, if they were even out then XD. However, I recently got two of her albums, "Let Go" and "The Best D*** Thing" and heard these songs for the first time in years. I've grown up since I heard them last (about six or 7 years, as I said) and I'm paying more attention now, and I have to agree with some of the things said here. Sk8er Boi was fantastic, and I remembered Girlfriend to be just as good, but now I'm realizing that it's really just what the lyrics are saying. There's no "greater meaning" to it. It's just a girl who is willing to do just about anything to get a guy. It seems childish now, though both are great songs for when you're feeling crummy and need something to just get up and dance to in your PJs. Or am I the only person who does that any more? XD --- Please pardon any splling/ capitalization errors- my keyboard is twitchy. |

I cry every time I hear this. It's in the playlist I listen to whenever I just need to cry it out. As the song said, she was married "two weeks after the day she turned eighteen.". This happened, most likely, weeks, months, or even years after that. It's the day of her husband's funeral, at the same church and she's wishing it was the day of her wedding again. She doesn't want to believe that it's actually his funeral and is trying to convince herself "this can't be happening to me, this is just a dream." This song has the heartfelt pain of someone who's lost the one person they love most. I think that this actually happened to Carrie and this may be her way of moving on. |

| I started crying when I heard this song. It was a really hard time for me- a mentor of mine passed away and it caused drama at school because he was important to many people there. I was so angry and sad and I felt so alone at the time. After this, I realized I wasn't. My friends were right there by my side and I had family and people really did understand how I felt. Every so often I still cry over the tiny things that happened years ago, the ones that seemed huge. T_T. | |
