I completely understand where everyone is coming from, with the Christian viewpoint of the song. That makes sense, and I would even go so far as to say that's probably what Lacey is really singing about. But that's not what I heard, when I first listened to it. As a writer, it resonated with me as the feeling that comes with true inspiration. The characters I write about have voices so poignant that sometimes it truly does feel like I'm just holding the pen for someone else. And if I could, I would absolutely give the credit to my muse--or the angel, or God, whichever word you would prefer--for the inspiration that strikes me. I suppose it doesn't make /quite/ as much sense with the lyrics, but that's how it still touches me when I hear the song. |

La Playa means "the beach" in Spanish, yes. As for what this song means, my explanation might be completely off, but I'm going to run with it. To me, it sounds like it's being sung from the viewpoint of someone non-human or someone otherwise not part of the "normal". And even though he doesn't fully understand how everyone else operate, he observes them, and wants to join them. To me, it's almost like a Frankenstein's monster kind of idea. He's lonely, and has an innocent sort of wisdom, but people are afraid of him or what he has to say. Boy Hits Car owns my soul, period. They're so underrated. |
