Yet again, about the mother/woman which he seperated with, but this time, it looks like its from her point of view. "Two years In your heart One moment of doubt Two lives Torn apart One second from now " - This, I believe means that they were together two years, and because of "that" little incident, they broke up, just like that. "Held him In your arms Your fever subside Always safe from harm Kept demons inside" - When she was with him she felt safe, but always hid her "dark" side. "Still you always start runnin' Towards the light From the moon We saw a mother cry And left a space here" - Hard to interpret but last two lines indicate her sorrow over having to leave her children. |

I think this is about the woman which he seperated with in porcelain heart. She is regretting the seperation and wants him back. The song could even refer to her taking drugs or something simular, thus being a danger for her kids which the man takes care of. - "Lock the children away from harm They're no longer your reason why" But probably its just the mans belief that shes deceitful and has a bad influence on the kids. -"The light comes on Your weakness starting to erase all your lies So I left you alone We all left you alone" "Seeking tenderness with a dagger Skin is marked by the years of trials" - This could either mean that shes aged a lot, or, more likely. That she is feeling very bad and has tried to cut herself several times, each time being a "trial", thus leaving scars. This is all what i got out from the song and is, yet again just a theory, but i believe it is right until someone proves me wrong :P |

Ok this is also just a theory, but it really fits in with the lyrics and what people here said. To me it sounds like he indeed got a child with someone that he thought he would love and stay with forever. But something happened. "I lost all I had (that April day)" - After reading the rest of the lyrics, this could indicate that his wife/girlfriend had cheated on him (in april). "I turned to my friends (nothing to say)" - He turned to his friends (for comfort?) but they do not really help "I wrote down a name (and read it twice) I wallowed in shame" - This is hard to interpret, maybe the guy who cheated with his girlfriend, or it could also indicate that hes the one who cheated on her, so hes in shame. "Icy roads beneath my feet Lead me through wastelands of deceit Rest your head now, don't you cry Don't ever ask the reason why" These lines gave me the hint that she cheated (wastelands of deceit). I believe he is talking to his child here, comforting him/her because his/her parents just seperated. He doesn't want to tell why they seperated though, because the cheating story isn't good for a child's ear. Like i said, just a theory, but i believe that this might be correct to what Mikael meant. |

I interpreted it as, regarding that it IS a concept album, and Mikael said that it is personal, i believe the whole album is about Ã…kerfeldt's life. In Coil he describes how he "wasted" years on a woman. The line "All those years caring for a liar" fits in with that. I think that, like justinshorb said, it is about consuming (or wanting to consume) something to forget the woes in life, or perhaps its just a metaphor, and hes really just doing something to get his mind off things. Anyway hes probably very depressed and the lines "O brother, you are a killer and you target yourself" even suggests suicide-thoughts. The last lines (just a theory now)"Overheard us talking in a smoke of lost hope" kind of confirms that (do you smoke lotus flowers? xD). |
