| It sounds like people looking for hope. They go seeking for some hope, to allow them to proceed in life. These people pretend to understand 'higher' things to bring purpose in their life, such as the afterlife, like heaven, or a source of eternal love- the eternal light, that others will never know. They cling onto the notion that they are eternal and serve a higher purpose to give them meaning, like children to an eternal father, or sheep for the shepherd. I believe this song is about the lure of hope that religion uses to snare many 'sheep' with promises of love, purpose, and security. They sing aloud praises to this figure of eternal love, basking in bliss, yet blind to the reality, that many others have their own versions of gods. | |

| I would say that the person is wishing for an afterlife and a god, but he can't force himself to believe it. He is nervous about being wrong, about choosing the wrong belief, but he also doesn't want to be right, because it means this life is the end. By seeking the truth, he realized that he has lost his belief and his sense of security, and hope, and the force of it is too much to reconcile. | |

| It is about religion BUT it is referring to politics as well. It is a song against institutionalized drone mentality. Many idealogies incorporate religion with politics, though it's not always as simple as 'if you are Christian then you are a conservative and vice versa (I actually know a highly conservative atheist and I was a liberal Christian for brief period of time.) It is a 'Fuck the System' message. Both parties do it, it's not just Obama-it's all part of a political game that our politicians play to fool the sheep. Truth is that the two parties may differ drastically in some ways but beneath their shiny exterior, there are dreadful similarities and hypocrisies-look at what they actually do rather than what they sell you. | |

I believe the song is about how the masses become so complacent with the problems of the world-Hence they 'get out of the way'. The first section is referring to the complacency and the monotonous routines while ignoring the problems posed by our actions. The second section is about the apathetic view of the problem as passing it on for those in power-'But we can't despair with our heads in your hands' The third-recognition of the danger as caused by one's own actions-'You're my design'-We allow these destructive leaders to come to power, we elect them. 4-We are about out of time to change our circumstances. If we keep going down this path, there will be irreparable repercussions. The circumstances are looking futile. 7-If it matters to us, we will take action to 'make peace' with our circumstances or we will continue to allow society to decay. There will be a price to pay to preserve this world or protect it. |
