Flyleaf – Arise Lyrics 15 years ago
so, I really thought I should put my two cents in because when I first heard this song, I found completely different meanings than straight up drug addictions and such... maybe because I don't know too much about the band itself, but the great thing about art is interpretation

I think the song is honestly about all the labor we Christians have to do, that we're called by God to do... and how absolutely exhausting it is...

there's a scripture that says 'do not cast your pearls before swine' (matthew 7:6)
and, I believe, it meant other humanity, unbelievers... because if we throw all that we treasure (God-given revelations, our testimonies, our beliefs, and hopes) they'll be trampled on by animals... sorry, unbelievers, if I offend you, really...

tell the swine, we will make it out alive
(hey, there is hope, though, for unbelievers, there's still time)

when it says "Sing to me, about the end of the world, end of these hammers and needles for you"
it reminded me of labor... a lot of believers believe that the end of the world is coming soon and Christ is returning, but until then, we have to labor and work for God... but soon, I believe it too, Christ will come and we can put down our hammers (tools, usually associated with man) and our needles (tools, usually associated with woman) and have peace... we sing about it all the time...

Hold on to the world we all remember fighting for
there's some strength left in us yet
hold on to the world we all remember dying for
there's some hope left in it yet

God, this is beautiful... we need to remember that we're fighting for the greater good... that though our strength runs out, we have a cause... we have a cause to be martyred for... there is hope.

I think the second verse could be drug-related and, of course, the razorblades refer to self-mutilation... I think it shows how we are overcome sometimes and we turn to things other than God and those things, sadly, become our god...
twilight is bruised
and there you lie
overcome. overcome. overcome.

the best part, though, is the call... man, I hear it when she sings it, the call of God

arise and be! all that you dreamed!
arise! arise!

it's like God telling us to be His church, to be His body, to restore hope, to love and be loved, to spread mercy, to be full of kindness... arise! grow up!

sorry, I just wanted to say that. if you read through it all, thank you... if you disagree, that's okay...

God bless, kiddos...

this song is so absolutely True.
and it has the message that a lot of Christians have forgotten: that God loves everyone.
(and He seeks to change us all, too)

God bless anyone who finds this song. :)

Future of Forestry – Speak to Me Gently Lyrics 15 years ago
The best thing about this band is that they are Christian but always greatly conceptual. Their songs aren't just "Praise Jesus, Praise God!" all the time. While praise and worship songs are amazing, especially in artists like Chris Tomlin, Hillsong, Casting Crowns and all that good love, it's nice to hear something quieter, with more intricate lyrics, and a deeper meaning woven into the song.

I'm searching the stars
In desperate hours
Bound to find meaning
God shows a face
In this desolate place
And tenderness meets me

Definitely love the second verse the most... It shows how we search desperately to find purpose, when God finally shows us His will in the desolate times and His love meets us...

I think the chorus is saying how we should be able to feel that God exists in the time we're given... in the signs of his wonders... but that might be my mind overthinking things...

No matter, this song is amazing and more people need to comment...

Tenth Avenue North – Times Lyrics 15 years ago
God in Heaven, I can't hear or sing this song without crying...

I think we can feel both sides of this song. The verses belong to anyone who has ever believed in God, lost faith in Him, hid from Him, loved Him, yearned for Him, questioned Him...

But, the bridge, the rest of the song belongs to God. That's His love letter right there. That's Him telling us that nothing will separate us from His love. When we hate Him (God, I can barely type that) and when we're numb... bitter... unforgiving... ashamed... hurt... scared... rejoicing... loving... praising... singing... dancing... laughing... whenever, wherever He will always be with us.

:) Smile, you are loved.

Tenth Avenue North – Empty My Hands Lyrics 15 years ago
Seriously? No one else has commented on this song?

Well, let me be the first. This song speaks about several problems that every Christian faces. Our pride, our dreams, our will, our dark desires, the voices that influence us, the chaos surrounding us, etc. We seem to forget that God can rid us of all that junk, if we'd only let him.

Besides the lyrics, the song itself is more than beautiful and the lead singer's voice has always had a REAL quality to it. It's not booming, he doesn't have a crazy range, but his voice speaks in ways that no other singer can.

God help me, I'm crying...
