| Hum – Ms. Lazarus Lyrics | 15 years ago |

I think this song is about his son who passed away (Like if you are to bloom), and wanting to bring him back thorugh a time machine or wanting to go back to the time were he was still alive. Some lines I can't make sense of, but a few give it away really. "the way your headstone shines, i only wish that it was mine" Going to his sons grave and wishing it was him instead of his son. " past the wished on charms, through the lens back to your living arms" His wished and wished for his son to come back, and through this machine he comes back. "and still the crosshairs rest on one." This machine has not worked "and still you rest here in the morning sun" His son is still in the cemetery. "and still I fumble through" He is struggleing to cope with losing his son. Thats what I got anyway |

| Hum – The Scientists Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| That to me sounds about right. Matt at a live show said it was about two scientists and how they have a lab each. So match the lyrics to that idea and you get what you elaborated on. | |
| Hum – I Hate It Too Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Matt said this song is about how you better not fuck up , or better yet how he maybe messed it up with a girl? | |
| Hum – Suicide Machine Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Its funny how you say most hum songs are about drinking, Matt said that him and his girlfriend both have drinking problems. | |

Actaully, this song is about sleeping on sunday afternoons. Matt said that him and his girlfriend couldn't sleep during the nights and they fed off each others imsomina. He said that the best sleep he ever had was one sunday afternoon with his girlfriend on thier couch whilst watching football. So here is my thought on the lyrics "sleep comes to everyone while we wait for the sunday afternoons sleep comes to everyone, everyone baby, yeah, but you sleep comes to everyone while we wait, wide awake and blue sleep comes to everyone, everyone baby, yeah, but me and you" This part obviously relates to thier sleeping problems. "and so i give myself away to everybody everyday and so i give myself to you and you need it more than i do" Have no idea what this means? "sleep comes to everyone while we wait for the sunday afternoons sleep comes to everyone, everyone baby, yeah, but you and i have this one figured out, that's why the suicide machine is built for two a simple sick device devised to overload on love to bring us colored dreams and soundtracked waves of fun" To me the suicide machine is infact the sofa they fell asleep on. Sucide= meaning going to sleep. Machine = the sofa itself. So the sucide machine gives them sleep and gives them clored dreams. Also this can be backed up with how its built for two and how Matt said how they both fell asleep on the sofa together. " sleep comes to no one else like we have falling through the ground fulfilling promises of endless summer nights i'm losing ground, you're losing sound somewhere through a thousand blues a dragonfly descends with just a whisper i'm lonelier than god, and all my wishes spin the fishes in the air and everyone a different shade of you and to the left where up is down now stand a zebra made of shapes of me and silver and the sun so bring no guilt with you up above the flatline let's just hit the sky exploding into one" And this last part is how Matt as fianlly been able to get to sleep and him telling us about his dream. Hope that clears everything up for the hum fans!! |

| Also watch the video, you see the spy and you see her take the fluids and all that jazz, so it pretty much is the right meaning! :-) | |
| Hum – The Scientists Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| This song is actaully about how there is a couple and they are both scientists. Her lab is upstairs and his lab is downstairs. They are both making wierd drugs and they test them on each other and they are both running up and down saying you take this and you take that. So put the lyrics into that story and it all makes sense. | |
| Hum – I'd Like Your Hair Long Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Btw, I dont think it was 22 years, proberly was an exaggeration ;) | |
| Hum – I'd Like Your Hair Long Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Matt said this song was about a women he dated for 22 years and she tried to make him into someone he wasnt and how she fucked him up. The chorus "its a waste of a song" goes on to say how he wasted this song by writing it about her. | |

Stright from the mouth of Matt he says that when he hits the road and did the tours he used to miss is wife, and goes on to say it would be wierd how this astronaut go on spaces missions and leave their familys for months. So at the end he says at the end "and moonlight brings me back again to stay and i don't feel a thing here anymore strings of information slowing to a stop the tether's end slipping from it's knot i'm stretching out into... " He goes crazy and opens the door and gets sucked in to a black hole and goes on to say that there is a string theory or something that when you a go into a blackhole time goes slower and everything stretches out and that goes on to say that he was obbessed with the idea that everything was made of strings, and that when he jumps out the strings stop moving and start streching. |

| I was listening to a live bootleg and he said this song was about a girl who is a spy and she is on a mission to find a bug and she takes the fluid from the bug and she injects it into her own body , but its a wierd protein , and theres another person (who is another spy) with a another bug with the other half of the protein and they both have to go to a facility and they combine the fluids when the fluids have been taken out and it creates a perfect amino acid and they think it will creates eternal life and then they rock... ;) | |
| Hum – Afternoon with the Axolotis Lyrics | 15 years ago |

You know, I think you hit the nail on the head there. "Afternoon With the Axolotls" for me the title does some what indicate he is near a river near the "Axolotls" meaning he is spending the the afternoon with them. "She hits the blade with both hands high, downward is heavenward and we are not alone" Yeah, I agree that it is infact "blade" and not cradle, when she has been cut she hits the floor slowly making her way to heaven and that infact we are not alone as there is life other then on this earth, is what I am making from this line. "A fingertip trace says to me I can see you and you are red" I am pretty he says "red" and not "wet", to me this means that when she is on the ground he looks at his hands and sees he is covered in blood. "A bed of dead leaves grace the ground, a quick glance to the other side and we will not be found" just describes the setting, probably deep in the woods away from civilization." I think you nailed it there, I always thought the line "a quick glance to the other side" part had something to do with death and going to the other side (Heaven)? But I think yours makes more sense. "And through it all she seems secure" goes back to what i was saying about her wanting this to happen. This line although it would fit with the rest of the meaning, I am pretty sure he says "she was so pure"? I could be wrong, but that would mean he saw as been innocent and peaceful as she was dying. "Head thrown back, a sickened sigh, eyes shut, beezlebub can we do this without a net" at this point she has died and he asks the devil(beezlebub) for mercy. A net might symbolize him being trapped in hell for eternity. Spot on here, but I always think the net somewhat symbolises the devil not taking her soul? As she has been put in the river or near a river and you can catch fish with nets, its like hes asking the devil not to take her or "catch" her. Meaning aside, this song is amazing!! |
