Bowie himself has said this song is about making out with dudes,I think liplex is in denial about Bowie being Bi.So he or she just says it's all about yoga, strange really. If you are going to be a Bowie fan,or a glam era fan in general you got get over any sexual hangups! |

I absolutely agree with you on that. The song does sound somber at times as in the chorus. But I think the sound of the tribal drums and that great jangly guitar pick you right back up.They just don't write great simple tunes like this anymore. |

An excellent answer indeed, while the simpleton always says this song is in reference to Syd i.e."and if the band your in starts playing different tunes...",I think that that's only part of the story. |

I thought I already posted this but here goes,The song is a conversation between a doctor and a out of it patient.Waters says he wrote the lyrics after a show in Philadelphia. At that show Waters was very sick and did'nt think he'd be able to play, but a visit from a very nasty doctor who shoot him up with heavy duty pain meds changed that.In the song Waters parts are the doctor, and Gilmours parts are the patients. The way the doctor talks is very sinister and cold.He does'nt really seem to care about the patient at all.And the patient does'nt seem to understand what the doctor is asking him.Take the lyric "Relax,I'll need some information first, just the basic facts....)The patient does not give just the basic facts,as he goes on about some childhood sickness. For me the second most intresting lyric would be "Stand up,I do believe it's working, good"the way the doctor says good is very sinister,as if he knows that now he's gonna get paid "goooood". |

Dude you are nuts, first of all while Gilmour did write the music,Waters wrote the lyrics, second Waters wrote the lyrics in reference to a show the floyd did in the Philadelphia Spectrem(my hometown),he was so sick(something about his stomach)that he did'nt think he'd be able to play. That is until a unscrupolis doctor(which this city is famous for i.e the Ween song Dr.Rock)shot him up with heavy duty pain meds. |

While vagelier is closest to the right meaning its a little incomplete, the song is a conversasion between doctor and patient, the beauty of it is how the doctor talks, like many doctors coldly, the patient is out of it and can't really answer the questions how the doctor wants. The line releax I'll need some information first, just the basic facts, can show me where it hurts? But the patient's answer is far from just the basic facts,he goes on to tell the doctor about a childhood sickness. And the doctor in his cold sick way does not care,as the next line starts with Okay just a little pin prick(shooting up the patient with pain meds)You have to listin to the sinister way the doc talks(can you stand up,I do believe it's working, goooood)does that good sound like a positive good or a sinister good.So really the doctor can care less about the patient himself,he just wants to shoot and shut him up. |

I don't think anyone has said that this song can also be in refernce to the band itself, for exsample (is there something eluding you sunshine?....)could be Waters talking about himself,he wants the fans to sit there and shut up and listin to the music, but they just go nuts.Same goes for (if you wanna find out whats behind these cold eyes....)could be him looking at the fans. |
