I think it can be interpreted in a number of ways - a lot of them quite sad/tragic but it's still a beautiful song. I think it's probably about a relationship where the people love each other deeply but even though he loves her so much ("no-one's gonna love her more") it's not working between them (it's "splitting at the seams" and "tumbling down"). But he loves her so much that he's saying that even though he'll miss her ("like a limb torn off") that he's always going to love her and because of that the relationship will haunt them ("like a ghost of what once was"). |
