I think that this song is about a very difficult relationship. Obviously she is an alcoholic. She "begs for time", with the intent and promIs that she will change and he, not willing to give up on her, "gives her time." In the end they realize that "time is not given and time is not taken." I feel like this has a deeper meaning to it. But in accordance with this song, it means that they realize that they can't control time, they can only stand by as it "shifts through its sift." As they go on in this vicious cycle, he realizes that nothing will change. I get the sense that he still loves her so much that he keeps going for her. He begins contemplating suicide ("they build buildings so tall these days"). She picks up on this ("And her conscience would issue one last warning, saying: they build buildings") but still finds herself unable to change. In the end he kills himself, jumping off a building. The key phrases are his life flashing before his eyes, remembering everything. Just my interpretation :) |

| If you listen closely when he sings it live, it sounds like he's saying "night scene" not "night c" | |

I absolutly love this song. My view on it is biting sarcasm and poking fun at women and their obliviousness to how ridiculous their complaints sound. I must admit, I sound like this sometimes :) Another great song from the lovely Miss Autumn. |

I absolutly adore this song. I can relate so much to it right now. It's about really wanting to want this guy, and maybe at one point being in love with him, but things are changing and he's finding it's all empty and meaningless now. But he still want's to hang on, even knowing that they probably won't make it and he's probably only making himself misrable. |

Guess it was not meant to be It's not as bad at it seems It only burns when I breath (yeah, Yeah) You saw the way that I fell But I'm better off by myself That's the tale that I'd like to tell yeah - He's lying to himself, saying that he's so much better off without this other person, but knows it's all a lie. - But it's not that easy for me to say goodbye And everything in me wants you back in my life Can't let you go Can't let you go - He feels like he can't go on without this person, but he knows that he can't have them go. He just can't seem to get over the person, no matter how hard he tries. - It feels like dawn of the dead The bombs going off in my head Never a moment of rest (yeah, yeah) Nothing kills more than to know That this is the end of the road and I know that I've got to let go - He's finally admitting that he has to let go. Maybe over the "denial". He feels like he's dead without this person - maybe depressed, and all that he can think of is this failed relationship. - Wish I could just find away To have all your memories erased Cause constantly there haunting me, yeah, yeah, yeah - He wishes he could just forget everything and move on, but knows it's not that easy. He still feels like they should be together, and it's breaking him up inside. Beautiful song by a beautiful man. It makes me cry everytime I hear it - his voice is so powerful and amazing. I can't help but be reduced to tears by his ballad-type songs - escpecially a song like this that hits home so well for all of us. |
