i think its about a girl that hes trying to start a relationship with her, but shes been hurt so many times in relationships that shes cautious and covers everything up even though deep down she likes him and if she would break down her walls she could pretty much be awesome i guess(with lack of a better way to say it) but she ended things cuz she couldnt trust him even though they were so close to "breaking the walls" and turning it into something. |

i agree with shortandsweetem and taymay07, taymay07 with the salt comment, but to me with my experiences "we were never here" means that in her mind it was never going to last and he was in love and didnt see it, she kinda douped him |

yeah the backup girl singer, if you listen close enough, sounds a lot hayley williams.. i love this song, live version and the recording. the live version is great cuz its acoustic but the studio/album recording with the piano is a whole different dimension in a way, completely diff dynamics |

i like ABuri's comment, it explains it well, but it seems like there are 2 girls in the story... at first i thought he's talkin to his wife or gf and then he says "And there you were, as I saw my Juliet come graceful down the stairs,
It's hard to miss the way her eyes light up the room and steal the air." and i thought that was his daughter but then it talks about her lips locking and taking his breath, and i realized he said "my juliet" which normally means your girl or lover or what-not, and it's really confusing cuz some parts seem like he could be talkin bout his daughter then randomly he'll talk about his lover... overall i think the song is him wanting more time with his daughter, reading passages from stories (except when it talks about 4am bein to early for bed, it doesnt make sense to be his daughter for that one) and then his wife comes down, and i guess he just experienced happiness and love.
And ABuri, u have a REALLY good point and idea, but how would it work that hes with a girl, spending time and wanting more when it says "And there you were, as I saw my Juliet come graceful down the stairs,
