Imagine a world where Tom Waits was Top 40... The less people realise what an artistic genius Tom Waits is the better the whole fucking world - I'd love to have Tom back me up in a serious bar room brawl! |

| Easily my favourite song off Orphans - its simplicity is intrinsic to its beauty, and for me it's a toss up between this song, Martha, and Kentucky Ave as my favourite Tom Waits' songs. I have been listening to him (not always by choice, but never forcced) since 1975 with Closing Time - first taped one of his albums (Heart Attack & Vine) in 1983 - I think I still have that tape somewhere, along with Small Change and Closing Time... and I am slowly growing my "legit" digital collection of his works... | |

Only lost 1 war? which one? Vietnam (against an army of little men wearing straw hats and sandals)? Did you win in Korea? No - you reached a stalemate, and you weren't the only nation fighting the reds. Did you win WWI or II? No - it was the "Allies" - and you joined in both VERY late when the English and Russians were over the worst of it (I admit that Britain might have gone under without the help of the USA, and Australia - my home - would probably have been overrun by the Japs.) Oh yeah - that's right, you won against the Phillipinos, and the Mexicans, and the American Indians and the Confederates (your own Countrymen), the Granadans, the Panamanians... Did you win the "war on drugs" yet? It's pretty obvious, that many freethinking, liberal minded Americans (Corey definitely sounds like he's showing "enlightend" liberal thinking) knows that their country, being alone as a superpower (the USSR and the cold war used to keep each side in "check"), has the power, and uses it, to inflict callous unneccessary misery upon less fortunate nations in the world... and they do so in complete ignorance, believing they are working for the forces of goodness and freedom, and in the name of God, and dumbfounded as to why you're considered the village idiot and thuggish bully by the rest of the world... America is a killing name. Don't get me wrong, I'm not anti-Septic (Aussie rhyming slang - "septic", "septic tank" rhymes with Yank), USA is an amazing place and has the power to do good in the world if given the chance - and I love Harley Davidsons! |
