I would like to add my two cents on the song. The guy in the song is the author itself. He is talking to himself. He thinks he is a Romeo, but he realizes he is not. He is the joke of the neighborhood, he is nobody. He takes the long way home, that way he'll suffer less. Why should he care if he is feeling good? People will put him down anyway. And that is why he takes the long way home. As stated, his wife is not the same person he met, everything is so different, he got to a place where he didn't want to be. A shame, his life sucks. But being on show is the only thing that saves him. He loves to be on the stage. That's the only thing worth of it all. But his wife thinks he is losing his insanity due to his love for the music. Nobody can understand him. He constatly takes the long way home, he doesn't want to spend time with others. And well, in the end, he will be blamed. After all, he did only run. He did only try to escape. He was never around... |

The title says "Sweet child o'mine", which could be a dear way to treat her loved one, who is younger; or it could just mean that he loves a child. The kind of love a parent has to her daughter, this song could just be about the love he has to a child. That's why he remember of so many things when he looks at her. |
