I have a history degree and am going to be a teacher, and it wasn't as simple as "steal, kill, destroy" for many people. I hate what the greedy English and Conquistadors did. Plus, I'm an independent with conservative leanings and I'm disgusted by the what was done in so many cases to the indigenous population. And that's not the way most conservatives think. They are not monsters. But, if you look deeper you'll see that the vast majority within groups like the Plymouth Pilgrims and the Puritans came to America for Godly and not self-serving reasons, and certainly not with violent intent. That was Jamestown and other settlements. |
