| Adele – Someone Like You Lyrics | 14 years ago |

It's funny - my students LOVE Adele, and this song in particular, so I finally sat down and really listened to it. I think we have to be very careful when analyzing it; I read a lot of the earlier posts saying that she has moved on, or that she's done with this guy. I don't believe that's correct. The simple piano music lets the focal point of the song be Adele's powerful voice, which is delivering a powerful message: She's not over this man - nothing could be further from the truth. I take this song to be the expression of someone in limbo. Someone who's feet were pulled out from underneath them in such a devastating way, that they can't even move on. We've all been there, or close to it...that feeling where we seem lost as to where to go next. That's where I think she is in this song. At the exact moment where her foundation is crumbling, she doesn't know where or who to turn to, and she's just empty inside. I mean, where else can you go when your one rock, or constant in your life, suddenly vanishes? It is a beautifully sad song, but I'm afraid at the core, it's nothing more than a description of the lowest moment in a person's life. The upside is the remembrance of all the moments prior that made it such a valuable relationship, but fundamentally, this song is a sad story that too many of us can empathize with. |

| George Strait – Wrapped Lyrics | 15 years ago |

This is my first post here; I found this site a few months ago, and loved it. I love reading some of the interpretations of some of my favorite songs that eluded me for one reason or another. I like all sorts of music, and I enjoyed reading the pink floyd interpretations - because those are some pretty zany tunes. Anyways, I also love me some country! And this is one of my favorite George Strait songs. I was surprised to see that no one had written anything about it. It's such a catchy tune, and most people can identify with it. To me, it shows the guys point of view after he runs into an old flame at a bar. I can identify with it vividly - walking into a crowded bar and trading stares with a gal I dated. Your heart pounds, you try to play it cool, you get nervous...you exchange a few more glances throughout the night, and finally you're sure she's feeling the same way; that she wants you to come over. Then you go for it and say hi, and maybe you rekindle that old flame. The emotion/excitement of that moment, as a 20-something year old, is something I'll never forget. |
