I listened to this song immediately after a huge fight I had with my boyfriend where I said some really ugly things to him. I played this song and just wept. So, I see it through that lens, and probably always will. I think it fit perfectly for someone who just fought with their significant other and realizes how much they fucked up. "Weep for yourself, my man, you'll never be what is in your heart"-- After you fuck up a relationship, you realize how selfish you are, so you just cry for yourself because you'll never be the man/woman the other person deserves. I think the phrase "little lion man" might allude to the Cowardly lion in the Wizard of Oz. the singer has adopted this title for himself because he's calling himself a coward, even though he has the potential to be brave and fix the relationship, he didn't. He screwed everything up instead. "wasted on fixing all the problems that you made in your own head"-- You ever just fight with someone about nothing? You fight for the hell of it? So you make up problems to fight with the person about. Chorus--The singer realizes that the person wasn't at fault, and the significant other was the one who got hurt, and realizes just how badly he fucked up. Amazing song by an amazing band. Helped me get through some tough shit. |
