This too is one of my favorite songs. And, with all due respect, I don´t like to think that these guys wrote this grate song with the purpose of pointing out how ¨useless¨ it is to strive for happiness. I like to think it is more about how we, as emotional and generally pessimist beings, tend to sway in the way we embrace life. We forget to give ourselves a break when things go downhill, after all its our first time, and we too forget that we are not perfect (why fight this?) and that those around us arent either(hence the reference to his mother, her nature and opinions). MM even points out that this, self destructive tendency, is natural by returning to the original, darker, mood that it begins this masterpiece with. This regression might even pertain to the cycle humans go through in their quest and eventual discovery of happiness. This is a great song about the eternal human quest and eventual discovery of happiness. |
