I could be way off the intended mark here, but what I take from it is two people, using, who care for each other greatly. And each one is relying on the other to catch her when she moves over the mark from messing around to addict. But they're both descending at the same rate, and neither is reliable to say when things have got bad. |

There are a lot moments that sound like drug references, it could be about how they can crush you, etc, and the desire to not let the people you love see the destruction. But I also feel like it could be about seeing someone you love and respect do something completely heinous, which you can't tell anyone about, but which shakes everything you thought you knew about a person. "Didn't see nothin" " brothers our troubles are Locked in each others arms" the line about temptaion could refer to the overwhelming desire to speak of it. |

Thank you, I was sifting through all the comments trying to see if anyone else picked up on the potential Hungerford references. Took a while to find one. The idea that it's simply about a guy who woke up feeling positive, and wanting to get his life on track but finds it all goes wrong is a prefectly legitimate interpretation, and it works for it, but the language is actually quite violent, and implies a deranged killers mind-set. |

As I remember it, Layne got into Mad Season during, or strait after time in rehab, so it seems to make sense he'd write about it. The whole Pink cloud/grey cloud, reminds me of something I've often said 'The world's a dull, and depressing place a sober grey' I love the line 'In recovery of a fatal disease' Just right. |

I completely disagree. Especially since in other versions of the song, he says 'to the pagans' it's more that facing death, he's willing to pray, and beg to anyone for the chance to be saved. Fear of death can make a lot of people abandon what they otherwise rationally believe. I hope it never happens to me. |

| Alice in Chains – Your Decision Lyrics | 15 years ago |

I get what you're saying man, and yeah... Hardcore drug addictions will change the way you think, it's not a case of deciding to quit. When addicted, you're best off locked up in a room for two weeks with only the most basic essentials to live, but who can actually choose to do something like that? It's never your own decision. However, I've never liked the idea of comparing nicotine addiction to something like heroine... It cheapens the severity of the situation. Maybe you do form technically a physical addiction at a comparable rate, but one just makes you slightly less fit, and maybe kills you in a few decades, the other tears your life to shreds in months. Nicotine withdrawal is negligible compared to opiate withdrawal. One makes you a little grumpy for a couple of weeks, one feels like you're dying. Only reason I've never quite smoking is that I have so much less to loose than with an opiate addiction. |

| Jane's Addiction – Pig's in Zen Lyrics | 15 years ago |

"The bigger you get The wider you're spread You gotta depend on me Now your vision is dead" I could be completely wrong about this, but this makes me think of how a man seeking power might start to cease it, take over a nation, then find he desires further power, and starts to conquer himself an empire, as the empire gets bigger, he can't directly control the same proportion of it, and starts having to depend on others to help with the running of the empire, thereby reducing his power, because others are taking care of a lot of the organisation. With the reduction of power, the dictator's whole vision of power has failed... But maybe I'm just completely misinterpreting... |
