| this is about a dream she had where she was supposed to be protecting the techni colored dogs and one died in her care. she was terrified of the consequences and went on the run. thats from what i have read and heard from her. the song seems to build from this and the dream state as though the dream was just bringing up thoughts of guilt about something else that she has been carrying for years. I dont think its mocking at all. I think its the truth about her life she is never satisfied and questions how anyone could ever be satisfied with an average life. this album deals with mediocrity and how Marina is looking to be the best full stop at any costs. its not her problem if you dont understand because she has her eye on the prize. on this, she decides that she is in fact satisfied with the journey to her destiny. "greed to succeed" - she is clearly troubled by some of its consequences but her hunger for this dream is clearly most important to her. i have to say i think the album is a lot darker than people are making it out to be, which is of course the beauty of music. i do believe though as it is written it is the tale of someone troubled by this greed to succeed. it comes up so often, nearly every track. its most clear on "Are You Satisfied", "Rootless", "Numb", "Oh No!", "Mowgli's Road". brilliant album. i really connect with it. it hits too close to home a lot of the time but thats good sometimes |

the whole album is really hinging on this idea of success and striving for it. its insatiable. this song epitomizes this. It is about more than stardom or fame. I would even say that has little to do with this at all. it is about her personality and her desire to be the best and to achieve her dreams. she has left people behind because she is so focussed. she is constantly searching for more. - "looking for the golden light". she feels numb because she is "one track mind". she rationalizes it to be a "reasonable sacrifice". The more she achieves the more numb she becomes - she wants more. I say this is not about stardom or fame because it is not to be boiled down to celebrity life. this is happening to her because of who she is, not because she has become a celebrity. it is people all over the world who go through it. this song is her regardless of if she is famous or not. |

She is saying she will never let up on this determination for success no matter who stands in her way. very simple song for those who are in the same position. its about devoting yourself to a dream that gets in the way of other parts of life like friends and family and therefore holds more and more importance because success is all you can be to be fulfilled and that is just you because everyone else has been left behind. she knows its happening, shes not particularly happy with it, but she is not looking to stop it either. |
