If your talking about the sound at the beginning of the song that repeats in the verses, that's actually not pick scraping. It's a sample that the drummer is triggering just to the left of his hi-hat. It's a sample from Scott's solo project that they cut up and distorted in the studio (per an interview I read with them) and they just thought it had a great rhythmic quality.
