I've always thought of this song as what he feels about fame and what people want from him. And he just can't take it anymore, he can't always please everyone. He wants to be himself, he can't just keep being someone he's not. I don't know if anyone else said that. "What if I wanted to break. Laugh it all off in your face. What would you do?" Here he's saying he wants to break being fake and just be himself. He would just laugh about what people wanted and do whatever he wants. He's asking how they would react and what they're gonna do about it. "What if I fell to the floor. Couldn't take this anymore. What would you do do do?" It's the same as the line before. By falling to the floor he means giving up being someone else. He can't take the pressure anymore and know that there is nothing people could do about it. They can't control him. "Come break me down. Bury me, bury me. I am finished with you." Here he's stating that he doesn't care if he gets shit comments by saying come break me down. He's ready for all the hate comments he'll get for being himself. And he's saying he's finished with pleasing everyone. "What if I wanted to fight. Beg for the rest of my life. What would you do (do do)." Here he's saying he wants to fight for his right to be what he wanted. He's fighting the media. Maybe his record company is threatening him. They don't want him to be different because they're scared that they'll lose money. What would they do if he didn't listen. What can they do about it? "You say you wanted more. What are you waiting for. I'm not running from you." Maybe the public wants more from him and he's just waiting to see what they want, but he gets no response. So then that's why he feels it won't matter if he's different. He thinks that his fans won't care. "Look in my eyes. You're killing me, killing me. All I wanted was you" Here he's talking to himself. He's probably looking into the mirror, but he sees someone he's not in the mirror and it's killing him. All he wanted is probably to be the person he truly is. And he's mad at himself for being someone he wasn't for such a long time. "I tried to be someone else. But nothing seemed to change. I know now this is who I really am inside." He's saying that he tried being someone he knew he wasn't because he probably thought it was good for him, but changing himself wasn't really helping him. Now he knows who he really is and he doesn't care if people judge him. "Finally found myself. Fighting for a chance. I know now this is who I really am" He's finally found out who he's suppose to be and he won't let anyone stop him. He knows that it's who he really is, although it's been different from what he used to be his whole life. Of course, this is probably not the actual meaning that Jared meant, but this is what I thought about it. Tell me what you think of my idea. :) |

| Muse – Muscle Museum Lyrics | 15 years ago |

Okay so I'm starting to think it's about how no one would give Muse attention in the early days. Everyone would just go on in their life and no one would go to their gigs. (Like the music video. Everyone is doing their own thing, and Muse is on stage performing for no one.) "She had something to confess to, But you don't have the time so look the other way" I feel like "she" is Muse. Usually when you confess to something, you have something to show. Muse had their band to show, but no one had time and just looked the other way. "You will wait until it's over to reveal what you'd never shown her, too little much too late" I think that maybe their city or maybe record deals would wait till their early stage is over and wait till Muse got big to offer something (which is something you'd never shown her), but it's already to late. They have their fans, fame, record deal, etc. "Too long trying to resist it. You've just gone and missed it. It's escaped your world" Their city spent too long trying to resist listening to their music and watching their gigs. And now that they want to see Muse because they're bigger, they're already gone and they missed their chance to see them. Muse has escaped their world, as in Teignmouth. "Can you see that I am needing and begging for so much more than you could ever give" Here it's kind of how it was for Muse earlier. They were needing people to come to their gigs and begging for so much more attention in their city than they could ever give. "And I don't want you to adore me." Here he doesn't want people to like their band in Teignmouth because they never appreciated Muse until they got big. Matt doesn't like this about their city. "Don't want you to ignore me when it pleases you" This goes back to the earlier Muse when everyone ignored them. Because now they want Teignmouth to ignore them, but before they really wanted Teignmouth to notice them. This is what Muse was thinking before they got big. "Yeah, and I'll do it on my own" Here he's saying that Muse didn't need their own city's support to get them big. Muse did it all on their own with their hard work. "I have played in every toilet, but you still want to spoil it to prove I've made a big mistake" Muse has tried getting gigs everywhere they possibly could around town, but the citizens of their city spoiled every chance for Muse by not showing up. And to Matt this was starting to prove that Muse has made a mistake by making their whole life Muse. "You will never make it" This is probably the thought that's been in their mind the whole time they were trying to get somewhere. They were starting to think that they'll never make it because no one in their city is supporting them. This is what I thought of the lyrics, tell me what you think of my idea. :) |

| The band just couldn't think of a name for the song so they decided to just put the word before and the word after "Muse" in the dictionary. Look it up. "Muscle" is right before "Muse" and "Museum" is right after. Pretty cool, right? | |

Matt doesn't have children. He's never had a baby. But maybe the baby you may thinking about it Chris's. Maybe he wanted to feel like Chris's baby? But I'm pretty sure in an interview he was describing the bliss his childhood had brought him. Not child. He said that Bliss is one of his favorite Muse songs because the synthesizer at the beginning of the song reminds him of a sound his favorite childhood toy made or something. |

I read through all the comments and no one has really said what I thought the song was about. When I first read the lyrics, I thought of it as Matt's feelings towards fame. How fame has affected him. The first line, "break me in", I think of as how the media is trying to break into him and find out everything about him. "teach us to cheat and to lie, cover up what shouldn't be shared?" To lie and cover up what shouldn't be shared, in my opinion, means to start lying about somethings about you to maybe an interviewer or someone because you never know what people will think if you say the truth. To cover up what shouldn't be shared is like how a celebrity always has to cover up for something they did wrong and he feels like he has to do that. "all the truth's unwinding, scraping away at my mind" He feels this way as the public starts to find out more about him that he doesn't want them to know. "please stop asking me to describe" Interviewers, paparazzi, fans, etc. always want to know every little detail about a celebrity and he just wants it all to stop. They want him to describe why he think differently to other people. "for one moment I wish you'd hold your stage with no feelings at all" I feel like this line is directed to all the people that judge him because he thinks differently. "open minded. I'm sure I used to be so free." This line makes me think that he wishes people were more open minded about his thoughts. Or by open minded, he wishes he could be opened minded and free like he used to be before people started judging him for being different. And now that people are acting this way to him, he feels like he's not allowed to be open minded about everything. "self-expressed, exhausting for all to see and to be" Here he is exhausting for everyone to understand his self-expression. He wants people to get an idea of what he sees instead of being so judgmental and not giving his thoughts a chance because they think he's crazy. They want him to be more mainstream and not so self-expressed. "wash me away, clean your body of me" I feel like this is what he thinks other people want. It's hard for me to explain. I feel he thinks people want him washed out of them, as in they don't want all they've heard from Matt to be in their life. They don't want his ideas to be stuck in their minds because they don't like it. "erase all the memories, they will only bring us pain and i've seen, all i'll ever need" This line is the same as the one before. He thinks people want all the memories of Matt's crazy and different thoughts erased from their memories because some of them may scare most of the public and bring them pain because it's different from what they have always thought. He probably thinks the public has seen enough of him and that's all they'll need from him. Yea, so that's what I thought about the meaning of the song, but I think the rape idea may also be the meaning. Tell me what you think of my idea. :) |
