I have never cried while listening to music. But, this song brought a tear to my eye. I understand this song. I'm only 15, with no military experience, and I understand it. My Pop, who flew missions for the CIA and whatnot in the Vietnam War era, doesn't like recalling details because of the mental pain. To see what it does to people, first hand... Scary. I have been wanting to join the Royal Australian Air Force since I was 9. I'm still determined. I get this song, albeit from a different viewpoint. And I love it. |

Becksoo23; It comes down to a "Them or Me" situation. The soldier in the song shoots a civilian, thinking they're a threat after not stopping like he asked, without realising the white flag until it was too late. Basically: He had to make a split-second decision; but missed some details and slipped up. Hawkeye1983 sums it up beautifully. |

"rafngard Now when the White flames are burning flags We found a world worth dying for Wonderful line isn't it? I love the image, I'm still working on the song as a whole (it seems a bit nihilistic, but I think really it's more about rising out of that and finding something worth fighting for), but taken out of context it makes for a hell of a quite." It is a hell of a quote. With this song, I can't help but think of war. I know there's another meaning there (people have said "Environmental Desctruction", etc. etc.), but war is the only thing I hear... |
