| @[Burnsmonkey:54277] the man certainly earned his roses and earned his rest, that's for sure. He lived a wild, crazy life filled with adventure but also filled with love. I never met him personally but I wish I had, I have zero doubt he would've treated me with kindness and I would've had wonderful conversations with him. That's just the vibe he gave off in interviews. Easily one of the greatest musicians of all time, no one can touch him in terms of sheer talent, legacy and humility. Such a flawed, beautiful human being. He was, is and always will be a legend. | |

The first time I saw the music video? I was blown away by the subject matter.I was also getting out of a super toxic long-distance relationship as well, one in which I literally lost a majority of my appreciation for music because any song I listened to made me think of the person I was with at the time. When I first saw this music video? The keyboard intro pulled me in, as did the dreary atmosphere it had. I didn't realize that it was WWE superstar Victoria's entrance theme until the opening lines kicked in, needless to say I was shocked to realize what the name of the song was and the name of the group that performed it. I ended up getting the CD sometime later and listening to it from start to finish. Not a bad track on the album. For me, this song is about forbidden love in general. It absolutely is an LGBTQ anthem in that the song is about same-sex love between two women whose parents do not approve of it whatsoever. Doubly so that society frowns upon it as well as evidenced by the video, of course back then, people were just beginning to open up to the idea of homosexuality being normal. For its time, the song was groundbreaking. The subject matter was taboo and still is, especially considering both women are from Russia, a country that is known for being very homophobic.Even though the lesbian part turned out to be an act, the idea in general led to much controversy but also lent itself to this song being such a huge hit worldwide. |

| I will say this, I've not heard this song in years, and for the longest time I'd been trying to figure out the meaning behind most of STP's work. It seems to talk of a girl who is estranged from her family, that they were consumed by greed and she's left to pick up the pieces. I agree with those who say it was about a personal tragedy. This definitely reflects that loss and sorrow of the girl and those around her who felt the loss of the mother and the sister. | |
