people never look at this album as a whole; always separate songs. I see these songs as one huge story of a man living through the apocalypse. The "State of Emergency and Sense of Urgency" in the beginning; the loss of hope in Time is Running Out; the slowly dying of his hope and everything he loves to the cold winter of Armaggedon in sing for absolution "lips are turning blue"; the panic of Stockolm Syndrome; the death of his lover in Falling Away with You; the literal "Hysteria" he has after said death; the reality finally setting in in Blackout; the realization that he must change his life and take the lead if he wants to survive in Butterflies and Hurricanes; the coming of age in The Small Print; looking back on his memories in Endlessly; and finally his death and his acceptance of it, even though it "scares the hell out of him" in Thoughts of a Dying Atheist"; then, the ending hymn of his life, Ruled by Secrecy. |

i believe this whole album is a musical novel; every song is a chapter. i think this song, "or chapter" takes place after the end of the world, the world is engulfed in some sort of ice-age, (lips are turning blue[hypothermia]) and he is trying to survive while his beloved is slowly dying. He does not know what will happen to him in the future (butterflies and hurricanes), and cannot even contemplate how he will live without his love. his singing for absolution maybe singing for death. i'm only fourteen so i don't know if this will make sense, its hard to put this in writing... |

This is what I think: Queen of Light: Galadriel Prince of Peace: Frodo Dark Lord: Witch King or Sauron Horses in the valley below: Helm's Deep Tired Eyes on the Sunrise: The men of Minas Tirith waiting for the sun to break through the everlasting darkness. Dance in the Dark Night: Gandalf encouraging the men of Minas Tirith to have hope. Ring Wraiths: Ring Wraiths. With flames from the dragon of darkness, the sunlight blinds his eyes: The last breath of Sauron through Orodruin (Mount Doom) and the first sunlight hitting Frodo's eyes. Hope this makes a bit of sense. |
